Completely different class

Nothing to do with the teams themselves, butthe most marked feature of fridays game to me was the standard of the referee and accompanying officials ,which was a class apart from what you get at ryman (and even conference) level.

i guess ,playing a league side the club needed to have league referees.

Ok it was only a friendly, but the gulf in class between that set of officials and ryman standard was massive i thought-seemed to get all but one decision right and let the game flow.

Without referres there is no game, so i will always be reluctant to criticise officials, but having witnessed excellent officiating on friday, you can understand the frustration when officilas with lesser ability take charge;and much much bigger than the gulf in class between Margate and Carlise was the gulf in the referring standard between ryman officials and league officials

Going back to the game on Friday night, was worth the entrance fee alone just to see that superb free kick execution by Ian Harte.

Would he have scored so easily if the defensive wall was lined up properly with 4/5 in it?

You knew it was going to be a goal before he even attempted to kick it.

Surely whether you are on a park on a sunday morning, or Man utd v Liverpool-in that type of position you put at least 4 in the wall.

probably would have scored anyway,as it was a good strike regardless.

An even better goal though was margates second v Grays-brilliant build up play between Healey, Blackman and Wilson. That imo was a better goal than hartes.

looking good for us though i reckon

I believe he would have scored, yes Michael. He used to score goals like that all the time for Leeds.

Agree re our 2nd goal it was superb link up play finished with a great shot by Wilson.

Re: the original post, I thought the officiating on both days was atrocious, summed up on Saturday when the 'referee' (I use the term loosely) had a word with Quain after he merely questioned an off-side call. There really was no need for it: it was a friendly for God's sake!

Was impressed with the first half against Grays. More than held our own and, as stated elsewhere, the second goal was fantastic.

As for the Carlisle game, the difference is class - particularly in the second half - was clear for all to see. No shame at all in getting beat by them... and there were certainly some positives to take from the game.

Interesting how we see things differently.No-one right, no -one wrong -just interesting

As i originally posted, i thought the officiating on friday was superb.

What are your expectations from the officiating then DM and how for you did it fall so atrociously short on friday ?

Didn't think the ref had a lot to do on Friday, the game was played in a great spirit I thought, agree Saturday's ref was too fussy at times for a friendly.

Well I generally expect the officials to let the game flow. I am of the opinion that football is a physical game yet I felt the official - like many nowadays - was far too quick to stop the game at the slightest of contact. And the linesman giving the penalty was far too harsh for me - Lacy (I think it was) was on his ar$e at the time... he could hardly get out of the way of the ball!

But, as you rightly point out, interesting how everyone sees things differently.

Agree DM that the penalty decision looked a bit iffy but i was down other end so difficult to say.

I thought he did let it flow, but like you, would like to see more contact allowed in all games; since as far as i recall,it is still a contact sport
