Canvey Island 0-4 Southend Utd

Thought tonight was a really exciting game and Canvey should be abe to take loads of positives from ths match.

All new players/trialists/reserves looked solid considering the stature of the opposititon. I think John will have some selection problems this season if everyone is fit, plus another player or two joining! wink

Notice on the back of the programme tonight, that Clydie Roberts is also listed in our Squad. Nick Reynolds will be a good player to develop, he played well with Leon Gordon and Tarkan tonight, so he looks promising for the future...

I think the real difference tonight apart from full/part time is the kicking of the Goalkeepers. How many long balls from their 'Keeper put us under pressure? Twice it was a long kick from them and two passes later the ball was in the net.

Question - Who was Gary Calder watching tonight?!

My review:

Southend played it as nicely as they could on the ground, Canvey hoofed it back.

Freedman's touches were still there, his first touch is a joy.

Francis Laurent is god, don't care what he does.

Kevin Betsy was getting jip from Revs several times.

Herd was great.

Calver's goal was an absolute peach.

Canvey's fans are pricks.

This was taken from the shrimperzone forum made by DC80 .

See some of them still dont change.

Overall like you said Matt i think we can take a lot of positives from the game .i dont think it was all one sided however considering they a 4 divisions above us they should have an advantage over us. although it was 4-0 i'm not to disappointed.

From the comments I overheard last night, I think some of their fans need to realise that CIFC are in a new era, where Southend Utd are expected to beat us. I mean to be fair, Southend Utd will most likely be right up in the Playoffs or there abouts this season, we all know Tilly is no mug. The scoreline was admittedly, a true reflection of the two teams.

Gone are the days where one promotion or relegation meant the possibility of being in the same league as one another. We have honest Directors, an honest Management Team and a dedicated fan-base driving the Club forward.

Having said that, some Southend fans last night were very gracious in their victory, many paid out for a programme etc. and genuinely wished us well over the coming season.

Too many living in the past!
