Not Town related but this is my idea to give football a helping hand... With so many clubs in financial trouble and going out of business for in premier football terms peanuts isn't it about time the big leagues helped out the little leagues..

If all Premiership teams paid

Any system to aid clubs in trouble will be abused with the same clubs again and again over spending, you only have to look at Luton Town to know that they never learn and will continue to spend money they don't have.

A more simple way would be to make all transfer fees payable in in full in one go before the player can pull on the shirt of his new team.

Even simpler... don't let clubs spend money they don't have. Maybe cap total wages to % of income ? Clubs would then only get players they can afford. OK, the best players would go to the 'biggest' clubs but that's nothing new!

If they can't afford the transfer upfront then they just can't sign the player.

I would also limit each club to a first team squad of 22 so that you don't get crazy situations like what may happen at Man City with an overload of world class strikers. A club should then have to give a certain notice period to the FA to remove one player from the list and replace him. When a starfting line up is announced then I would allow all other players to be named as subs, although still only limit the actual amount of substitutions.

Clubs should only be able to spend what they already have and players should all be on a 'pay as you play' system as in most motorcycle sports as this encourages them to get fitter quicker and avoid suspensions. Too many players have it too easy.

that would never work at our level, there would be an open line to the FA to keep up with the numbers of players we have registered!!

Most people spend money we dont have, mortgages, credit cards, even utilities are used in advance of payment. But there should be some form of cap or control, maybe some one from the worlds' banking industry could be brought in to advise

doh hyperactive

2p your idea sounds good but it will not work as stated by many other posters on this thread. You also start with the presumption that the premiership is awash with money which is not the case.

Liverpool's anual report was qualified by the auditors that stated or implied that it could not be considered a "going concern". Similarly Man U's owners borrowed money to finance their take over and immediately passed that debt on to the club.

Football has to live in the real world and not spend money they have not got. Many fold because of VAT. VAT is a tax that you and I have paid and the club has received I cannot sympathise with any club that does not pay its VAT bill. It is true that many of us live on credit but that is usually based on future earnings or value of an asset.

Football clubs overvalue their assets (players) and cannot easily predict future earnings as it is reliant on success on the field. In other words clubs should only spend money that they have. If they are going to borrow it should be on guaranteed earnings not wishful thinking.

It is very common for businesses to spend money they don't have, this is a universal commercial practice and does not entirely equate with personal finances. Essentially it's what makes the world go round. Being "in debt" does not stop a club, or any other business, from being a viable going concern. It has to be considered along with assets and projected earnings and so on.

Notwithstanding that, I would certainly welcome a more equitable distribution of football's wealth.
