That's good-coming from one of the ostriches. Let's hide ourselves from the fact that it's been one administrative [****!!****] up after another and every time we learn f()ck all from it and every twelve months we're back in the same position. But I suppose to some as long as we have a social club where we can delude ourselves that everything will end up fine (same old same old year in year out). Nothing ever changes at this football club except the level of success.

wet lettuce here, u obviously can do better than the present board and feel strongly enough to slag persons/people off prepared to put their money where their mouth is... If and I say if you can do better then- do us all a favour and apply for the position, its easy to remonstrate over the state of the club and its financial comings and goings but until YOU know for sure of the "business" side of the club please dont air what you think to be right on a football forum. I am now positive that I will be slated by your good self for "backing or agreeing" with the current board but I go/support MFC cos I like watching non-league/local football end of.

Well said Danny, could not agree more. The current board whatever you may think have drastically reduced the debt and are the reason why MFC are still going. If the truth is known a majority of the debt probably goes back to the Conference days when we were paying wages far in excess of what we could really afford, because we reached that level quicker than expected and the Club was not set up to cope with the the sudden rise in stature. Therefore to try and maintain or increase the success levels it's outgoings far exceeded the income. Lets clear the debt, reorganise, attract more investment, forget the past, move forward and hopefully never be in this position again. Up the Gate.

In the midst of all this, I don't go for the whole "Well, you can't do better, so you can't criticise" views. There are some utter sh!te musicians / actors / songs / films out there, and I admit that I probably couldn't do better, but it doesn't stop the fact that they are absolute tripe and should come under criticism. Same applies to our board. Admittedly, I have had the utmost respect for them for constantly reducing this debt, but even I am now coming to the end of my patience. I can certainly see why some are criticising.

Well said Mike! Fans have a right to criticise what they see as mismanagement even more so on this forum, its is after all a place of conversation and somewhere to voice your opinions on the things that effect our club... admittedly Hornet likes the more flame/troll like approach but he normally makes a fairly valid point once you get past all that.

My own opinion on the clubs spending habits is one of confusion, I've never understood the financial working's of the club, and to be quite honest I don't think I would like to as I'm sure I would be horrified.

To this day I still have no idea how we funded the promotion push under Trott???

Instead of patiently trying to build a club with a "inexperienced manager" at the helm over a few seasons we gave the guy an insane budget and told him to try and buy are way up the division... I mean WTF??? we had just had two relegations and nearly a third in as many years, I'm sure we could have waited a few years to steady the ship as some of us on these forums insisted.

Anyhow rant over, this is the first time in nearly two years I'll get a chance to watch Margate on a regular basis again, and I'm looking forward to it providing the off field circus trick's that we seem to have every season doesn't ruin that.

The club has really no hope of progress under the present board. It will just stagger on from crisis to crisis. That is good enough for some people on here. But isnt going to be good enough for everyone.

Until somebody steps aside the show will on with fewer and fewer people watching.

Do you think No 6 that IF the obligation to HMRC is cleared, its just possible that may then leave some a bit more funding to invest in the team and ground to slowly but surely improve things.

I would see that as progress;and accepting that everyone sees the speed and amount of progress differently; i am interested in what specifically you would consider to be progress No 6 ;and then how and who funds the level of progress that you are seeking ?

Surely an improvement on the football side has to be a major priority this season and keeping TY and NS on board will i believe go along way towards that.

Lets face it nobody wants to watch a losing team so success on the pitch will attract more fans and in turn more money through the turnstiles, meaning more for TY to spend on players and so on.

Its gonna be no good sorting out HMRC then continueing to play like last year and getting relegated anyway.

Agree, although from what i read, KP has a massive task on his hands `to successfully sort out HMRC and as others suggest, the seriousness and difficulty of this absolutely final chance must be understood by all.

The facts are the present board have mis- managed the club to get us in this mess in the first place. Throwing money at a manager doesnt guarantee success and in our case didnt. It was a catch 22 situation really with the development plays going through the board believed we had to be seen as the major club in this area to attract investors but that didnt happen for one reason or another and we finished below Ramsgate and really this year didnt fair much better. Bringing in TY and NS was again to attract new investors and in Neville case for him to bring in new revenue schemes because of his statue and contact within the football world. The board didnt invisage this situation arrising and all of a sudden we are in a recession and the last thing investors want to do is invest in something that may and probably not have any return on their investment. At any level of football the investors usually end up being a supporter who can afford to fund their favoured club and dont usually expect to make money but become an expensive hobby for them.

There is no doubting Pipers commitment and dedication to the club but there comes a time when fresh blood is needed to take things to the next level.

IMO

I agree with No6 (Who would had thought eh!!!)

I dont think the club will progress under Keith but what are the options, KP wont leave without some of his money back, so it looks like the club has got him.

New board members are lacking, and this is to me is the most worrying part, board members with money are a luxury and imo dont benefit any club, but new members do bring there own expertise. They can all tap up their friends/business's for advertising and sponsorship, organise band nights, firework nights and all this will bring in streams of revenue that arent all footy related and in turn you are not trying to hit the same fans week in week out for more money.

I dont accept that the recession makes it impossible, just harder, so you need to put in more work and more people make light work of this. It is afterall easier for 10 board members to find 2 more sponsors then 2 board member to find 10

This is where there is little support within the board, not enough people to deal with all the work.

To give you an idea an events company that I know wrote to 5 clubs about helping them raise money, only two have not replied Dover and..... Margate

Also I think that a member of MISA should be on the board, it will show them the day to day hassles that are involved and it would show a big thank you from the club to MISA for all of the hard work that they have put into helping the club

Finally opinions are just that, each to there own, Hornets opinion is as valid to me as Danny Ridings, although I agree with one and disagree with another, buts thats life.

So onward and upwards

Steady on chaps, we're getting reasoned and intelligent debate now, with imo, some particularly good points made in the above two posts (i hope that does not sound patronising as its not meant to be ).

As Pagey states, from the little i know, some i agree with, some i don't; but no-one is right or wrong-its all just 'interesting'.

Only 11 days and we can get to grips with some proper footie debate then, and become armchair Ron Manager as opposed to armchair Ron Chairman
