I was watching non league football back then and cant remember Hornchurch doing anything dramatic back then but it was 42 years ago. Supported Tilbury back then, as lived up the road at Chadwell-St-Mary, and in the following year they had a top of the table clash Athenian League div one with Eastbourne Town and the ground at Tilbury was so packed us kids sat on the grass pitch side so we could see the game. Score was 1-1 and Tilbury went on to win the league. Can you imagine health and safety allowing that nowdays and can you imagine Tilbury's ground being that packed now adays?
