Youth Retention

With the youth team players that have been promoted to the first team ie. Billy, Jason and Ricky, what happens to them with all the potential signings that are going to be made? These boys had a fantastic season especially Jason Holmes in goal who looked like he was ready to take over from Dave, and Billy who looked more and more comfortable the more he played as well as Ricky when making the odd appearance. Talent like this should be held on to as if they are replaced I can't see them hanging around and will be snapped up very quickly by other clubs, what's the point of having a youth set-up then?

Footy is a cruel game at times. The boys will have to prove they are one of the best 11 to get in the side otherwise we'll all be moaning again, well most of the others will i'll just stay positive.

So who said they had been promoted to the first team?

According to the manager the first players to sign will be this week end

Maybe the players in question are too old for the youth team, but that is totally different to progressing to the reserves or first team squad

But wasn;t it Michael Jackson who thought the future was with children?

Billy is the only one too "old" for the u18's. Jason Holmes and Ricky still have another year at that age. They were awarded at the prizegiving with medals for making the step up. First team games and the majority of the reserves games were also played by them. We will just have to see what happens this season.

Refer to list of awards given out.

A good squad player, I hope he signs, but reckon EU will give us some form of nonsensical reason we shouldnt sign him up, then if he does, come November he will be telling us what a good signing he was! evil

Actually it was Ewan Macoll and Peggy Seeger

If he does sign up along with Rudi, then the good thing is they both have to prove themselves to the new management from ground zero.

In my view, if we cant get better than those two, then we have an uphill battle, but again, i'm all for some humble pie, hopefully sooner than November.
