Mmm, don't see Fermie battling it out. I'd be very surprised if he stays.

This is looking more and more promising. All I've wanted is for us to be able to compete with the best at this level and it looks like we may do with the new signings and the pick of the old squad.

Probably agree about Fermie but if this is the end of the new signings and Bateman wants a squad of 18 then imo he has a shout.

Assuming all of last years squad want to stay imo there are 17 players that virtually pick themselves:

Brown
Jackson

Edwards
Fenton
Harper
Jackman
Sweeney

Edgeworth
Herron
Kean
Sinclair
Stevenson

Jordan
Romeo
Sealey
Sippetts
Gumbs

And one other from

Fermie
Bubb
Attrell

Does anyone know if Shaun Byrne is still at the club?I know that he got a long term injury towards the end of last season, but nothing has been updated recently.

I'm only going by what Bateman said, that he wants a squad of 17 of 18.

Do you have any of the youth players in mind that you think could push for a place next season bearing mind the experience and quality we now have in the squad.

Shaun was only a short term signing to help bridge the time between when SB took over and the end of the season. Picked up a calf injury so was limited in his availability. Shaun is also out of love with football I believe !

must be hard if you were in line for a pro career and then you have to drop due to injury or whatever. a lot of players don't even ever drop to semi-pro level

i suppose its a fair point none of the youth team are probably going to be considered regular starters yet but we need to make sure we keep some at the club. maybe even send them on loan or dual registration whatever to other clubs. 2 that spring to mind are Hicks and Mugisha who i know has already played elsewhere last season. there are a few others who could do a job perhaps on a non regular basis for now. RR you have a good point about the 18 or whatever Bateman mentioned will probably mean players who are fairly experienced in first team football.

Going by Bates earlier comments possibly still one more signing to come training starts in about a week or so perhaps more will be known then with some of the current squad signing of being released

Not that suprising, that was rumoured towards the end of last season. Probably won't be the only one, we'll no doubt have a suprise big name from last season who moves on, seems to happen every year.

Don't forget we also have Rory Smith and Sam Bateman as possibilities to add to that list as possible returnees, plus maybe a few trialists and 1-2 others Bates has lined-up.

i think Rory Smith is a really underrated player BUT i would not be surprised if he did move on. he is though i believe from the sort of area that would be fairly local to the new league we are in

Sam Bateman will probably be there if needed much like Tom and the youth players were last season for the time being at least

its inevitable some of the players we have had since the start of last season or before will leave. its good that Bateman is giving the chance for them too prove themselves in pre-season if they wish
