Ideas to raise our home gate.

Recommended Posts

Ok. TC has quite rightly stated publicly that we need to raise our home crowd to 700 so lets get the creative juices flowing and come up with some ideas.

I will start the ball rolling and I am prepared to be shot down but here goes.

Invite local youth teams to take part in a mini soocer comp at half times or penalty shoot out. Different clubs each week. The kids and managers get in free but the parents who want to see little Jimmy score at half time have to pay!! It might make the dads come back again if they enjoy the match.

Set up a scheme where we send vouchers to local schools which for a specific home game allows half price entry so kids 50p dads

Point 1) was discussed on Thursday and with a little planning we may go ahead with this - you weren't a fly on the wall Rick?

Point 2) Good idea but would be helpful if we get in to the Schools before then, like attend their summer fete's. The BTSA have a couple of invites and will attend

Point 3) If we're running a "penalty shoot out comp" then this possibly will be not required but if not...then it's worth considering.

All these schemes Rick take time and resources (like bodies) to help run them. So, if you and some willing volounteers are willing to step into the breech...

...we will all support the schemes.

The BGT idea is being discussed as well, but this if it goes ahaed will be organised by New Lodge Events.

Keith P pm'd me a good idea, It's along the lines of a vastly reduced priced season ticket, for the scheme to work it would require a big take up, but I think it will be a good way to bring in new, and rekindle old, support.

No I was not a fly on the wall Gaz. I guess its hard to come up with orginality and you guys beat me to it.

I agree it takes a lot of organising and willing volunteers. I cant give a committment to help out on this as I have already pledged my time helping elsewhere for the year. I would be happy to help out from time to time though, so if you need a hand at a summer fete etc let me know.

Anyhow!!!! Iv got a great idea on how to get more parents to bring their kids or family to watch the Blues play? Get a grip on those foul mouth louts (few) so called fans and Ban them!

Also decent (clean tea and grub ) would'nt go a miss ! ITS LIKE A PIG STYLE. AND TO EXPENSIVE !!!!! Especially for Single Parents.

When I complained to the previous chairman I was told we should expect bad language. That is when my wife and (teenage) son stopped going to matches. I have found in recent years that the language of our fans has got worse. I particularly notice it at away games. I do agree if we were to ban them that it would not help our gates. Oh for the 1970's!

I agree the language of our fans does appear to be in the gutter at times and I feel uncomfortable taking my kids to some games and have spoken out to some of the mindless people using it.

Not sure it will help us get more people through the gate but might make them want to come again if it was enjoyable and not offensive.

Well i just hope the big clubs don't go down the road of banning everyone that swears. the managers will be the first to go and then the players and maybe even the odd fan or two.

A family enclosure sounds like a good idea. and maybe the parents can keep the kids from running around the ground aimlessly.

I like the marketing idea af a family enclosure, it may be a bit hard to police with regards to walk throughs at half time etc.
I guess another problem might be that younger kids like to wander around, so would it be ok for for the youngsters to have open access, but adults have a no-go.

but it could work, it's worth fiurther thought and debate

Some clubs have a notice up either requesting that swearing not be used or that if foul and abusive language is used then the stewards will remove the "offender" / "offenders" from the gorund. I can't remember it ever being enforced though.

A family enclosure is a fair idea but as TC said, there comes the "policeing" of the area to take into consideration. One to discuss at the BTSA AGM?

Just like to endorse the views regarding our food & beverage offering from the Tea Hut. Lack of competition breeds complacency. Ideally another hot food concession in the opposite corner of the ground, but even a decent Hot Drink vending machine would help.

I was at a school fun day recently and was surprised to see Gold blend coffee for sale in proper sized cups with a clean area for milk & sugar. I asked them if it was viable as they only charged 50p a cup.

The reply was "if you get decent coffee & Tea people will come back for more."

The stuff at new lodge is very very far from decent in fact it would drive you to drink.... Or is that the idea?? evil

I like the idea of the family area.

But not sure if I'd fancy being the little hitler that would police it.

I'm sure it would be self policed by the people that would use it anyway.

My own view is that whatever you get if you stand behind the goal "goes with territory" and if you really don't like it there is always somewhere else to stand/sit.

I have sat in the seats on the training ground side of the pitch on a number of occasions and not heard anything untoward. I think that's where the majority of families tend to locate themselves anyway so I'm not convinced we need a separate "family enclosure", unless as TC mentioned there are marketing advantages to be gained from it.

As for the food/drink I think it's fair to say the drinks are not great quality or value for money but in fairness the Blues Cafe tends to score very highly on many visiting supporters preferred food outlets.

Come on you Blues!!
