Just another normal non-league close season

Speaking to a Gillingham fan, he told me that his club would make more from the "play-offs" and a trip to Wembley than if they had won the league outright......this can't be correct???

Up The Reds.

Sounds about right to me, TV rights you see. Play-off semi-finals both shown on TV along with the Final.

Wellsie,The whole point about football is that it should be a sport and not a business. This is what has gone wrong, its no longer sport and thats one of the reasons they cheat so much because the rewards are so great for so few.

I havn't got a problem with clubs generating their own income by gate receipts, merchandising etc which will always keep the big clubs up there. The TV revenue is what has really put the prem league clubs into orbit. This is the money the FA should have for the greater benefit of the game as a whole.

If this did happen the top clubs have already threatened to set up a Euro Super League, well if thats the case then let them go,lets have the money shared out throughout football, lets have more competitive leagues and a Premier or 1st div where anyone can win as it used to be.If anyone disagrees with that last statement then I remember when Stoke were at the top of the 1st div(I know-- I must be pretty old),so if they can get there anybody can(sorry Graham).

No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to recall Carlisle being top of the old first division at Christmas some years ago, sadly I'm pretty sure they got relegated at the end of the season. The ups and downs of football can be pretty dramatic.

Professional football is on a massive low in this country at the mo and with the climate the way it is you would think that whilst there is a chance to do something about it then now is the time . The word CAPPING comes to mind and wages should be the 1st capping . If the players don`t like it then its just the money they want and not the football , simple as , kick em out .

1974/5 season when their season in the old first division went to pot when they lost to second division Fullham in the 6th Round of the FA Cup. Always remember that season for some strange reason
