Season 2003/04 What can we hope for??

Reckon with clearly limited funds available (Calder didn't hang around long after finding out what they were) and a few money bags teams out there next season could be a toughie.

Having said that hopefully the new management team will bring some fresh ideas and players in and really there can only be one aspiration for the league and thats 16th or better. Personally I'm gonna plump for a 12th place finish.

It's about time we had a decent run in the Cup or the Trophy (Rushden seems so long ago) but you cant help feeling we've blown a couple of great opportunities in the last couple of years. Who knows tho perhaps when we least expect it.....

I also think we should give the ESC a go its a decent competition with some decent sides these days and I know how gutted we all were after Aveley.

So I go for

League: 12th After Justin Edinburgh sells his cup winners medal to keep us in existence after a mid year cash crisis

FA Cup: Last qualifying round losing to someone we should have beaten, crying into my beer saying "havant" we been here before.

FA Trophy: Quarter Final before going down to the Daggers in front of 2500 at New Lodge

ESC: 4th round lose 1-0 at Boretree after they take a lucky early lead and then time waste for 80 minutes

Bryco Cup - Who cares

as for what can we expect?

I reckon we'll be something of an unknown quantity - probably both for us as fans as well as for the rest of the league. I'm not going to get carried away, but definately a top half finish.

It's important that we get off to a good start pre season and early doors in the league. If we can get the crowds back up to 5-600 then we may be able to increase the wage bill and bring in more players.

Well i think this season will be quite a good one.

I think we'll definately finish somewhere in the top 8.

Our FA Cup run will be good, and we'll get to the first round and closely loose to an average confrence team. And our FA Trophy run will be quite good too.

I think we'll win the Essex Senior League and get to the semis of the Bryco Cup

Our attendences will be something like 6 or 700 and the crowd will be singing the whole way through the season and into the new Confrence Division!

A bit difficult to say at this stage really. I can't see the point of posting a "hopes and wishes" message as a) we have a new manager, so why do we wanna either show him that we're a demanding crowd that don't look at the reality of the situation (or are so low after the "close call" of last season's financial disaster, that we're just gonna shrug and say "whatever"), and B) do we really know enough as to what is going on in the world of BTFC to build our hopes and give out all our hopes and wishes....

The thing is, there is nothing wrong with the "head in the cloud", we should do this and that but the reality of the situation is, we have a new, young untried manager and we should all get behind him. It won't be easy as I'm sure he will have to find his feet but with the usual BTFC supporters patience, I'm sure we will get behind him and the team and make Justin welcome. You never know, we may end up as champions on a limited budget 'cos he gets in the right players, develops the young players and gets people in who are proud to wear the blue shirt.....ya never know, stranger things have happened....

....But until that 1st day of the new season, Champions, Winners of the Trophy (beating Canvey in the semi final 5 nil), 3rd round proper of the FA cup (beating Canvey 6 nil in the last qualifier), ESC final winners (beating Canvey 7 nil in the final) and winners of the Bryco cup, putting out a reserve team and beating Canvey 8 nil in the final). After all this Dick Marshall come running to New Lodge with tail between his legs, telling everyone how he has always supprtred us..........I have some very strange dreams........

Wise words from Gazza there

I don't want to keep banging on about this, but for me the important thing will be to get the crowds back. If we can reverse the trend of last season and get back to an average of ~600 which we achieved the season before then the budget won't be so limited.

It's really too early to say as it depends on who leaves and who is brought in. If we bring in some good players it will get the crowds back. With some good signings there is no reason we can't finish top 6.

I reckon about 8th, semi finals in league cup, final of essex senior cup, 1st round fa trophy and last qualifying round of the fa cup.

Guessing the future has never been perfected yet. But here goes....

League - anything above 16th will suffice as long as BTFC are in a position to move into the Conference Division 2 for the season after next. The balance will be between securing the right place and not throwing away money on a team that finishes near the top but to gain no extra long term advantage. To win the league would (of course) be very nice but is BTFC currently financially structured to take the leap into the top flight Conference. My guess is probably not. That said, it would great to finish top half and I'll plump for 8th.

FA Cup - Oh please, please can we make the first round proper again and get a home draw against Nationwide league opposition! It's a possibility and this might just be our long overdue turn...

FA Trophy - tough one to call. Depends on the luck of the draw but at least through to the 4th round or better is my prediction...

Bryco Cup - Out first round please. This 'competition' is a complete waste of time...

Essex Senior Cup - Semi-finals possibly....could win it.

Much of what Justin's blue army achieve will be down to a desire to play for the club - something that has been lacking in far too many players in recent seasons - even the so called better ones. If Justin can get a bunch of decent lads to be fired up for EVERY game and gain a strong bond with the Billericay faithfull on the terraces then there is no limit to what can happen.....

GO FOR IT JUSTIN..................!

The most important thing next season is "survival", the club we are told has been in a desparate financial state and it is most important to stay in the game, I would feel a lot more confident if we had a new board to run the club, what we dont want again is to start off very well then run out of cash and end up going down and down as this season, I hope that the new season brings new policies regarding information for the fans, we fealt that we were being left out of it and when all the rumours start going around it does no good for the club, players and supporters, so please lets have more official info next season.

How can people say we can win anything? We don't even know what the team will be for next season...(and before anyone has a go about my post, it was humour, ya know funny, taking the piss outta Canvey....).

How can anyone predict what will happen for any team (inc. Canvey Island). If I remember rightly, canvey had an awful start to last season and that could've continued...(it didn't which was a shame)....Look at Grays...spending money last season like it was going out of fashion on so called talented players and they were looking at relegation.

Who knows what will happen next season...Lets just concentrate on getting behind our new manager and be grateful we have a club after the going ons of last season and hope that we can for once build a team worthy of the Blue shirt of Billericay and not get rid of most of our quality players two months before the end of the season.......
