Romford promotion

A little article on non league daily caught my eye !!

Witham Town manager Danny Greaves has slammed the hypocrisy of the Ryman League hierarchy in allowing a club to be promoted in their place despite not having a ground of their own.

"It makes a mockery of the whole league and its standing and is certainly creating a precedent," said Greaves (pictured). "I think it's shocking but then nothing surprises me today in football administration."

Town were relegated from the Ryman League Division One North last season after coming second from bottom.

"I've no qualms about that because we finished in the relegation zone but to then find the league are proposing to promote Romford, who won the Essex Senior League, but have no ground of their own and are unlikely to for a long time, is contrary to all the rules," Greaves continued.

Romford currently ground share at Aveley, newly promoted to the Ryman League Premier Division, but in the past the league have refused admittance to clubs who have that arrangement in the premier division.

On Thursday, the Football Association's League Committee met to decide on the constitutions of all the various non-Leagues up and down the country, including the Ryman League.

"It's clear there's going to be no chance of a reprieve for us even though you can appeal, which is a waste of time because it's heard by the same committee that makes the initial decision," he added.

Witham's only hope is that some of the clubs don't switch leagues.

Basically Greavsie saying he has no qualms about it, but will bitch and moan about the leagues hypocrisy, but still 'no qualm'...

What a tw@t...

Team were not good enough, as proved by league position and points total, why should they get a reprieve...?

Go down like any other team that finishes in the relegation zone...

Enfield Town went up on a groundshare.... did he moan then. Met Danny Greaves once...didn't like him much.

Also if is contrary to all the rules it would not be happening!

I would like to think that if was not permissible we would have been told so when we applied.

He has his facts wrong again. AFC Wimbledon were not stopped from going up to the premier because of a share with Kingstonian.

Fisher Athletic were groundsharing and in the conf south , Greavesie is just clutching at straws to stop his club going down , I do agree that Ilford who seem to get away with it on an annual basis should be long gone crazy
