NLP TODAY

It's rotten when your thread has a nought on it Geoff so I thought I'd add a little bit.

I think what the comments in the NLP show is just how important it is to live within your means, which largely means on things that you have some control over such as gate receipts. I also liked Michel Platini's statement in one of the nationals when he brought up the subject of TV money, or more to the point what happens when it is no longer there.

Seems also that Ebbsfleet have a problem moneywise but I guess that is old news and, as far as I was concerned, was always going to happen.

I'm still a member of MyFC, although along with others who spoke out early on, I've been banned from posting on their site since last year. The Ebbsfleet situation is very sad for the club - basically, MyFC only has 9,500 members now, and the budgets were set when they had 31,000. The numbers are dropping every day, as people get disillusioned with the whole project which in my opinion, simply hasn't delivered what it originally promised.

The MyFC website (which I can still read) is now largely devoted to discussing ways to raise more cash, one of which is to ask people to pay more for their memberships. However, the vast majority never post on the forum (or vote), so I think they are fighting a losing battle, to be honest.

Thing is, the internet is international and to get people from all over the world sponsoring you need to be a big club, then you would probably see results. People like to invest in something that gives them a good chance to make money - you can't just keep asking people to up their payments to keep something going. Just ask anyone who runs anything nowadays - expectations are much greater than they once were.

Then you are subject to what I believe is called the law of diminishing returns, fewer people subscribing so the individual payments go up; this continues until the gap between the numbers subscribing and amount of subcription becomes to great to keep the thing going.

I think the whole business of having 31000 members and relying on them staying for this season is very bad management. It was obvious early on that things were not right with members complaining about not being involved enough in team issues. They should have at least budgeted on 50% less for the following season and not gone straight out and spent the lot.

Agree - my own personal view is that any club should rely on building up a solid support through the gate and, like it or not, that should have been the basis for running the club. Alright, you have local fund raising which is fair enough. As regards Myfc or whatever it is called, that should have been considered a bonus (and all that business about picking the team etc scrapped).
