They are building a road through Canvey Island Youth Football pitch. The developers are offering them a new pitch at no cost 20 yards from their existing pitch.

 

Some 20 residents feel it is OK to put their NIMBYism above the needs of local kids and have objected to the planning application despite the fact there will be no new structures, no loss of open space.

 

There were only two objections to the road, but this group of self interested spoilers are objecting to a football pitch, these are the same people who let their dogs crap all over the existing pitch or their kids ride their bikes on it.

 

One of them a so called member of the club has even lied about the club, accusing the kids of using foul language.

 

They have lied in their newspaper interviews and there is now a good chance the youth of Canvey Island and all those who visit the ground will lose this pitch. There are not enough football pitches for kids in Essex.

Spot on, my lad played against their Under 12 side in three separate friendlies last year. Everyone who were at those games were impressed with not only the competitiveness of the games but also the good spirit it was played in. To deny kids like this recreational facilities is bordering on the criminal.

Yes the pitch is at Haven Road and we are trying to get a petition up and there is a facebook causes page.

 

The people down there are just so wrong, last week there was a game down there and the manager had to clean two bags of dog [****!!****] from the pitch.

 

A letter of support carries a lot more weight than a petition!

 

They put a picture on the front page of the paper saying that the pitch would ruin the view, they forgot to mention that is where the road will be so the view will be changed anyway.

The pitch is owned by National Grid, CIYFC have a seven year lease at a peppercorn rent
