New Signing!

Recommended Posts

Billericay Town are pleased to announce the signing of Ian Cousins. Ian, who can play left-back and centre-back, spent last season playing for Chelmsford City. Ian joins Billericay Town as a player/coach. He has previously played for Heybridge Swifts (under Brian Statham), Hornchurch, Burnham Ramblers, Welling United and Braintree Town. As a youth player he was at Tottenham Hotspur.

Would guess that's where he's likely to play, with Dumas outside him. Good signing, and gives cover at LB if Ash is injured.

Welcome aboard Ian.

Although he mostly played left back for Chelmsford, given what we have and what we don't, I'd expect to see him deployed at centre back mostly. Gives us the experience at the back that we've lost with Heffs going. An encouraging start to our summer recruitment drive.

Come on you Blues!!

I see Chelmo have also released Gay.

Ian should turn out to be a good signing for you. His performances for the club which you wish to "gloss over", were somewhat indifferent during the period when we were sweeping all before us, but improved considerably when we were struggling, so he SHOULD feel quite at home in your team (lol).

Seriously though guys, he'll turn out to be a very good signing - a few more of the same calibre, and Ricay could be a force to be reckoned with next season.

A few comments from the Sloppybox from people who I assume don't watch games from a castle in Jockoland!:

moulshamclaret

"A few shocks on the list of released, thought Cousins was one of our better players second half of season."

venturer

"He is by preference a left full back, but can play in midfield and is a better than average Centre Back."

Monsta20

"Suprised to see Cousins go. I think he really worked hard towards the end of the season and was on many occasions our best player."

I know an Englishman's home is supposed to be his castle, Ryan, but I think you're SERIOUSLY over-estimating the status of my humble 4 bed detached.

That aside, my posting concurs entirely with the examples you quote, extracted from the Sloppybox (sic), despite the fact that I have the misfortune (or should that be luxury) of not witnessing our games first hand.

Cousins did well for us at times last season but the trouble he had was that he kept getting injured. He'd play 3 or 4 games, be out for a month and then have to work his way back in to the team again. If he had stayed relatively injury free last season i am sure we would have kept him as when he did play he did a pretty good job at left back and occasionally at centre back.

I'm suprised we have released Danny Gay but it seems we were paying him stupid money and he had a massive loss of form towards the end of the season. I think the feeling is that we can get better value for money elsewhere. I'm not sure myself because he has a knack of pulling off saves when he has had nothing to do all game which can be a very valuable attribute in a keeper.

Whats Woods Garness like and whats his primary position. I've heard he's best on the right wing but what do you lot think?

In a Harry Enfield stylie:

If Burbatov asked if he could come down pre-season and trial for our first team
I'd av a word and say, NO BURBO...if you you fink you can come to rural Essex, wiv your selfish mancunian ways and silly hair band, waltz your way in to a blue shirt and banish Joe Flack to the subs bench, it ain't gonna appen...you're no beter than Woods-Garness.

Berbatov? I admired his solo goal for Bayer Leverkusen against Lyon in the 2001 Champions League, and all the good works he does for Bulgarian Childrens Charities, but..

..if he were to come 'round here with his Beef Stews and Basketball I'd say "No,Dimitar, NO! You may have been Player of the Year at Spurs but you aint a shoe in at 'ricay! Now get in the Tea Hut and rustle up another pot of Goulash Soup! And then practice your penalties!"

Bloody Bulgars.

I hope you're saving up TC for all these players that are available. I'm told some bloke called Tevez might be looking for a deal too.......

Living in the past PB?

Hockers was a great striker and did well for us but I'll stick with the present crop thank you.

Billy did well last season and Flackie was getting back to his best before his hamstring went. In my opinion, Flackie is the better of the two. If the support and supply to these two was better last season, who knows what fireworks we would've seen up front.

Give both a good pre season with our new signing and I think we'll have a strike force to fear.

So...as much as I like Hockers, IMO, I don't think he is required.
