Ollie Gray - Signs for Ramsgate

Recommended Posts

If correct, thats a real pity-but you can't blame the player for wanting first team action-or indeed TY for probably realising that OG has alot of potential-but probably not quite at the standard that TY wants the team to play at next season.

A bit of a no -win situation for TY

Unfortunately-you can't keep everyone happy i guess

Instant success does not happen over night but over a long time.

Is he well rated, as the youngsters might say,..

Yes he was the player of the year.

Rob Summers is now the reserve manager and there will be another announcement today on further signings and new coaching staff. Looks like the step backwards for Ramsgate might have been the best thing that could have happened seams they have woke up to the fact its not all about the first team you have to develope players.

The inconsistency (or is it confusion ) of both clubs is interesting.

Ramsgate start off-and do well-by developing local players, lose their way a bit -and now go back to their roots.

Matgate-fail to buy success ( the trott years)-promote youth-develop a successful reserve side-but now-do i get the impression-probably rightly-that TY is moving ever so slightly away from that policy-and realises that you do need a bit of qualiy and experience.

When one of the clubs gets the balance right-i am sure success -and hopefully-sustained and consistent success-will follow.

Lets trust TY to get the balance and consistency of policy right for next season.

Not sure how much of a departure from the policy announced last year we have now at Margate (except for a Director of Football!) I recall Big Nev saying a number of times at the start of last season that the local lads - from Thanet or more widely across Kent - will have to be "good enough".

At the moment on balance, we need to look further afield for experience to get the balance right. And to be honest, that's what Ramsgate have tried to do. It's just that JW always seemed to spout off about how good they were about giving loacal youngsters a chance. Next season I guess they're doing so out of neccessity.

This is why a number of league and FA meetings to determine who goes into what league / division around the middle of this month is crucial for us. Ryman Prem says balance toward experienced more established players (and we already have some of those now), Ryman One says balance can be / needs to be towards younger players.

Shame we have lost Oli as I rated him, probably not quite ready for first team yet though, but as a squad player Yes the experience would have helped him. Good luck to him anyways a nice lad.

Just going from memory, and not doing a thorough check (tch tch) it does seem to me that over the past few years a few younger players, Dolton, Wisker to name two, have gone over to Ramsgate but it hasn't been the success that they had hoped. Am I correct?

By the way - who is Michael?

Those players mentioned are mostly still playing Scott Holder couldn't play because of work commmitments but now playing at deal. Karl Barron at Hythe but didnt really get a chance Wisker went on 2 year contract to Whitstable along with Baggley who has had to pack up because of working away. Dolly still at Ramsgate after being away for 5 months.

Your right it hasnt been a great success for these players going to Ramsgate but they are all still playing and in Dan wisker and Doultons case Margate have been trying to get them back all season without success due to contracts
