More praise for Wellsie

As an exile I have listened to his commentaries since the first one. It is amazing to hear the difference now, compared with the first ones that were transmitted. Who can remember the long pauses when I thought the link had gone, but it was just Wellsie thinking of something to say next. Nowadays it just flows for the full 90 minutes as he has learned to adapt and use fillers in pauses in play. It is a very professional piece nowadays, especially when you recall the double act of uncle urchin and Steve when we played Hornchurch. This has to be one of the best facilities in non-league football.

Wow! Thanks for that - and to whoever Kenneth is! Yes, margateshot, I cringe when I listen to the recordings from the early shows.

As well as providing the service to our own exiled fans, I always wanted to appeal to away and inreasingly neutral fans who listen in, as a way of growing the reputation of our club. I do quite a bit of prep for a game now so hopefully the quality is good and improving. It is really gratifying to see this kind of feedback.

Karl is about the best summariser I have had; fingers crossed for a repeat performance in the future!

Looking forward, I'll be looking at a number of things for Gate Radio over the summer including getting serious in getting some sponsorship and adding some new features for match days.

Given the comment on the Isthmian forum, it may be that with the right facilities at other clubs we could offer to cover their games when we're not in action - now there's a thought.

PS Jane, we could rule together wink

Even better when you think Steve stood on the terraces at Thurrock and other places in the cold and wet singing and roaring on the gate. Also his father played for Margate and |I remember seeing him play. Gate fans are just the best despite our moans and growns.

grin No fear of that hartdsownfan. In showbusiness, the higher they climb, the further they fall wink

And a genuine "thanks" for your kind words.

As a shift worker who often has to work Saturday afternoons, I find the commentaries invaluable. What makes the achievement more remarkable is the position of the 'shower cubicle' he works from, with blind spots at the top end, fans obscuring his view and the distance from the Coffinend. When we eventually get a new main stand, an elevated viewpoint around the halfway mark will help him no end.

Thanks Steve for an invaluable service.

I listened to Wellsie when I was at uni in Preston (for 6 months, cough cough). It was like listening to premiership games on BBC 5-Live...

I listened to Staines v Margate on that larkweb thing; listening to that was more painful that the result of the match!

Beggers couldn't be choosers yesterday though. (The Staines v Margate broadcast was awful) I was just grateful to have a live feed to the match. With my imagination i can get right into the game and i did.

Those fellas get paid to do thier job. Wellsie does his for love.

In fairness, Wey is a volunteer set up. They started in hospital radio in Middlesex and expanded from there. But from what I heard alongside me when I was recording commentary of our game at Staines, I thought they might look at their approach and style, but each to their own.

I read in the NLP that the ryman league are finishing with their daily telephone 'broadcasts' after 22 years, as the interviewer they use is leaving.

Any thoughts as to who could do the job and take it to a new improved level
