To cut a long story short, the season we were going for promotion with Gravesend, towards the end of that season he was offered a player/coach position at Grays.

 

He didn't tell the management about this and tried to tap up some of our players that were not getting regular first team football to join him at Grays the following season.

 

Caused a lot of dressing room unrest and I think contributed to us losing our lead at the top of the ryman premier and missing out on promotion.

playing for tottenham is bad enough.

With regards to westy,i heard what he said to people the day he left the club,that rankles with me,just have no time for the muppet.Great player but don't like him,no problem with jamie stuart,ashley bayes etc etc going to grays

you heard all of this dave or you have first hand knowledge of it...?

a lot of things were said back then rob by a lot of people and for the record I have the cctv footage of the picture unscrewer and it wasn't westie....he took a signed framed foto of himself off the restaurant dresser...

anyway each to his own and if he aint playing next satuday then thats good...he's still capable of spoiling a game for the oppo...smile

the bad feeling around westy may be due to a lack of inside knowledge at the time or rumours, but irrational hatred is as natural to the football supporter as is blind faith in the capabilities of the team. (although i do accept that afc hornchurch fc are the exception and are indeed by far the greatest team the world has ever seen)

 

we've loved hating westy and a he must like it a little bit too as it means we've not forgotten him.

 

like figo going to madrid from barca. 'we hate you so much because we loved you so much'.

 

fully respect everyone's opinion, but my personal opinion is that he's a tool. ignorance is bliss smile

indeed he was,but i remember him being out for months,the club looking after him.He gets back to fitness,it goes tits up and bang,he's off to grays,says a few things to people regarding the club etc,not too fussed about the pictures,they don't matter to me.

Many players stayed for a few days to see if the situation could be salvaged,there was talk of someone coming in by the friday which didn't happen.Some players stayed till they found out there would be no saviour saving the club,westy didn't,he was straight out the door.The others i don't really blame for going but westy was the fans hero and the club nursed him back from a bad injury,HAD HE STAYED TILL IT WAS NO LONGER BELIEVED A SAVIOUR WOULD COME IN HE WOULD OF KEPT SOME CREDIBILITY

there was no saviour rob and thats why we came back in in january...all the false dawns from MW's mates and others came to nowt (except draft beer pumps) smile you must remember that nothing actually happened to the hfc club until may the next year and what did happen was nothing to do with pulling the plug on gary hill's budget...

the grays players all left together in early december 04 and all took the same deal...there were 5 of them...oh and lee matthews took far more money in hospital bills out of my pocket than westie ever did...

maybe nothing happened but many players stayed for a few days to see if something could be done,we know the reasons why you came back,they are not in question but westy was straight out the door,maybe with the other 4 but the fans felt he owed the club,plus he was the one who was backbiting to certain members of staff who i am still in contact with today

crikey rob backbiting is hardly a revelation at Hx is it...fck me I have only recently stopped wearing the armour plated back pad...grin

we all have opinions and thats fair enough but most of the stuff on here and in the bar is ill informed due to lack of first hand facts....its just the way it is and I have always undertood that.....I just feel it was time to put the record straight about westy...he was no better or no worse than many others...
