In a game for which the phrases keenly contested and highly competitive were invented the battle of the top strikers was won tonight by Phil Page who more than made up for an earlier mis-shot when he stroked the ball into the far corner for the only goal of the game midway through second half.

Minutes earlier Tony Webb had bought on Adam Pero and kept Lester Boniface up in a 4 3 3 to try to break the deadlock.

Whenever the ball was on the ground both sides closed down and tackled strongly, the only way to move the ball forward seemingly to be to hit the ball high and long.MV had there chances but didnt manage to trouble keeper Coote too many times, and I cant remember Chicks peppering the home goal either.

It still seems to me if Dorking go up it will be as champions, and whilst that is still a big if , tonights result keeps that candle burning.

Banstead 1 - 1 Guildford

A scrappy game with few chances for either team. Guildford spurned a few having done excellent build up play, and Banstead skewed an easy header in the second half.

Banstead opened the scoring with a penalty. An obvious foul (a push as the cross came in) with the resulting penalty saved. The kick was then ordered to be retaken for reasons unknown (if there were players encroaching then both teams were guilty!). Nevertheless, this time Jack Smelt in the City goal couldn't get anywhere near it, and Banstead were in front.

The match became ever scrappier, but after some sustained pressure, a wicked deflection off a shot by Lance Bantam-Brown curled the ball past ex-City boss Dave Tidy in the Banstead goal.

Full Time 1-1.

Overall a fair result, although one which does little to help Guildford despite their nearest rivals picking up no points between them.

Also interesting to note a couple of our friends from Bedfont, on a scouting mission perhaps...?

Another good win tonight, In a tight encounter Ash got goals midway into each half to gain the win which will hopefully put them in the top 10 tonight

Thanks Jeff. Nice to see you and family again.

MVSCR look like a great side and I hope for their promotion.

If I had to comment, I'd say they need certain work in certain areas of the field.

Another fairly mundane game at Krooner. Cobham started well without really looking like they would score. They gave Cambo too much space in the first 25 though and 2 goals by a 16 year old Youth player including one cracker effectively settled the match. After the 2nd goal Cobham pressed much harder and Cambo resorted to the old long ball game. Cobham had much more of the ball 2nd half but really didn't ever look like scoring. If they do go down they need a couple of older and bigger lads to look after them and then they will do ok. Disappointed no Jurg again frown

Apologies Kroons.

I'm currently still out with a knee injury and was hoping to get along, but the g/f was moving into a new house last night so got roped into helping move her stuff out of mine instead.

Heard we played well at times, but lacking in a goal scorer to put our chances away. As you say, acouple of older and bigger guys in key positions and I can see us doing ok next season.

Mole Valley continue to wobble...wrong time of the season to be doing that!

Did the Mole Valley keeper start playing for time from the first minute as he did in both games against us?

It would be a shame if Mole Vally did not go up as they have appeared to work very hard on bringing their ground up to the required level and for a change it would be nice to see a team go up from a promotion spot unlike last year where Hartley went up by default (thats not a dig a Hartley)

Played ok Jurg but no real cutting edge. Small young lad up front must have been offside a dozen times in the 2nd half too. That killed you a number of times. Was impressed with your 7 who was big, strong, quick and liked a tackle. Also Danny did well as ever but the miserable sod didn't come in and say hello.

That sums up our season pretty nicely tbh Kroons. That sounds like our forwards who all have pace to burn, but just need to learn to time the runs better, as it does kill us at times.

Not sure who was playing there. Did he have blonde hair? Haha that sounds like Dan......still in his moody teenage years!!

Yeah he did Jurg. Gave Sillsy a hard time in the air too. Bit rash in the tackle though. Got some abuse from Ken too so all in all a good night smile

I know who you mean now. He has been away for the last 3 weeks and we do miss his physical presence and engine (is one of the fittest players I've known) in midfield. If he had half a footballing brain he would be a v good player!!

He is one of Kens favs haha!!

M.V.S.C.R. 0 - Dorking F.C. 1

This game was a typical local derby. SCR started brightly with the wind and slope in their favour, a couple of long range efforts going over the bar. First half was a stalemate with SCR hitting the bar in the last couple of minutes through Jay Holden.

Second half, again turned into a scrap but Dorking were defending very well. Phil Page had a 1 on 1 with 20 minutes left, went round the keeper but narrowed the angle and went wide, with about 15 to go, Dan Clayton played Page in down the left, he took on the defender and drove the ball across the keeper into the far corner for the only goal of the game

Last 15 minutes Dorking defended strongly, not allowing SCR any chances and held on for a good, needed win to send Dorking into 4th spot, two points behind third placed Staines Lammas on the same number of games and 5 points behind SCR in top spot with two games in hand.

Big last 5 games of the season to come, but the win for Dorking makes it very exciting for the top five teams in the division.

Team:-

1 Dan Coote

2 Paul West

3 Alex Hill

4 Charlie Fournier

5 Roy Newman

6 Andy Briant

7 Lester Boniface

8 James White

9 Phil Page

10 Adrian Butler

11 Dan Clayton

Subs:-

12 Victor Donker

14 John Kennedy

15 Adam Pero

16 Gary Fennessy

17 Jesse Davis
