The New England kit

Alright, I know it isn't particularly relevant to Margate (although I suppose ultimately it could be), but what does anyone think of the new England kit? Retro with a vengeance.

Personally I think it is awful, Polo shirts (you used to be able to by blue Margate polo shirts cheaper) and shorts that in the late 1940's/early 1950's we could not wait to dump for something better. It's a shame that the black shorts have gone as well.

I understand that it is a "bespoke" kit - no doubt every purchaser will therefore be measured up for a kit prior to purchase.

I imagine that any day now there will be an announcement that new boots are being designed that will be made of leather with steel toe caps and ankle support that comes over the ankle instead of staying under it.

Oh, and in case the new boots have too much power and cause a loss of footballs when the current lightweight balls disappear into Tivoli, new heavier footballs will be brought in. These will have laces on them, they won't swerve so much and wingers will have to be careful with their crosses in order that the laces are facing the other way for the recipient to head.

Yes, I know the last bit is corny but I really do dislike that new kit - and at

Hi Guys, i actually like the new kit, yes it is very retro 1950's and that's what i like - but then i am a child of the 50's happybouncer I think its what someone called a marmite kit, you either love it or you hate it.

As for the shorts, glad to see the horrible blue things gone, the all white kit is smart (well i think so)

One thing, the price is out of order though angry

Yes and the players will be made to grow moustaches or beards and speak with Old Corinthian plums in their mouth and say'frightfully sorry' when they kick someone up in the air.

I agree gary they look cheep and ridiculous. Goodness knows what will happen if it rains and they gety wet. The players will be going around in slow motion.

I think the 'new' kit is truly, truly awful. And what is it with those tracksuit tops they were wearing last night? Everything in white just looks wrong - look like they were all in a Daz advert!!

Polo shirts that probably cost 50p to make, selling for

As much white as the England team has and the players will also be wearing pads, carrying bats and having to put on a hard hat of some sort to head the ball!

Re the tracksuit top: as I understand it, it now has one or two titles, the most notable being "Anthem Jacket".

Makes the mind boggle - at Ryman level we will have all the teams wearing "Anthem Jackets" and every game will start with both club's anthems (in our case Singing the Blues)followed by the handshake! Eventually the game will get started and with injury time we will all be home by 10pm.

I am pretty sure that I read on a review of the kit that under the badge is also embroidered the name of the country against whom the wearer of that shirt is playing.

So how long will it be before, instead of buying "this season's" England shirt, people will be forking out for "this game's" England shirt?

is great , Capello wants the old bad image of England banished for good , the wags have gone the show boat big i am an England player image is all gone . In comes the new Capello style no hype England kit and you can all be replaced by another player because your not iriplacible system , Good luck to him because it seem s to be working .

The high & mighty England won nothing .

The new plane and better England will win things .

Up the Gate .

Whilst I don't dispute too much of what you say, re wags, hype etc, I think it is pushing it a bit to say the old bad image. You could hardly label that against the likes of Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Billy Wright, Stanley Matthews.

They had much better kits to wear, given the facilities, materials and technology etc available.
