Citizens win at Haringey

Although going a goal behind in the first 10 minutes the Citizens Adam Wallace levelled the scores just after the 20 minute mark and Fabio Valenti scored the winner on the hour.

 

Missing key players for this match the Citizens started strongly but the home side had the early chances, their big centre forward Lloyd Opara set Alex Davids to test Sam Tanner in the visitors goal on 5 minutes, then with only 9 minutes on the clock a ball into the area hit Tanner's arm and looped up across goal where Paul Abbot nodded it over the line to put Borough a goal ahead.

 

It was Tanners long goal kick that Valenti neatly passed in to the impressive Matt Thompson to give the midfielder a chance on goal, the home keeper George Anderson, spilt the shot and was lucky to recover the ball with Thompson set to pounce.

 

It was again Tanners long kick 23 minutes into the half that set up the Citizens first goal, Wallace collected the ball and ran at goal, the advancing Anderson missed the ball and Wallace slotted it into the net.

 

The visitors were playing some neat football frustrating the home team although when the Citizens defence was turned Paul Abbot ran through but Tanner made a great save to deny him the chance.

 

In the second half the home sides frustration started to boil over and they gave away a number of free kicks for bad tackles and when Paul Marks was brought down 6 yards outside the home penalty area it was Valenti who beat the wall and crashed the ball past Anderson to put the Citizens ahead.

 

Although the home side tried to get back into the game the Welwyn back line marshalled by Richard Morton held firm and they came away from Coles Park with a valuable 3 points

Still in 14th Place they are now level on points with the two teams above them just goal difference putting them behind.
