The Funbus To Truro

It was sadly inevitable that last nights ref would turn out to be....shall we say "partisan?"

I remember our FA Vase days,we were always sent to some Godforsaken far flung outpost in the later rounds.

The locals sometimes had too many teeth, extra fingers, and webbed feet.

And so did the refs.

It has to be said though that last nights result assumed greater importance because of our recent poor form.

It is a well worn cliche, but the season lasts for 42 games.

If we end the season with nothing it will be because of our performances against AFC Hayes,Gosport, and Cirencester.

Not because of Mr Webb from Cornwall.

Not a great idea Wood Dog! I heard this story once, set in the 80's some guys stormed some building on some street in London and it pissed a load of people off so the SAS came in and kicked some [****!!****]!

Hi Gents,

Just thought I'd post as a relative neutral to the game yesterday, albeit having seen Truro more times than Windsor this season.

Firstly - excellent support. Well done. It isn't easy travelling that distance, especially for the second time for a lot of you I understand. The way you supported your side was a true credit and I hope you manage to secure promotion on this alone.

As for the game, I find it slightly worrying that Windsor are attributing the defeat to the officials. Both sides lacked much apparent pace at the back, but Windsor's was excruciatingly obvious. The first goal was criminal defending from one long ball. Moreover, the two up front offered very little for me and didn't worry a Truro back 4 who have conceeded a fair amount of goals for a top of the table side. The first five minutes aside where all Truro and they controlled the game and looked far more cohesive with Windsor's main threat coming from either long throws or free kicks of which Truro appeared more than happy to conceed frequently.

The second half was much closer and you looked a far better side after the front two had been changed. The spirit shown was impressive and although Truro had the majority of the play and chances, Windsor continued to press and deserved at least a goal for their efforts. Forgetting the decisions, for now, having seen both games between the two sides, Truro do look to have the edge in terms of both mobility and a variety of DIFFERENT attacking options.

And the ref...

Talking to Truro fans before the game, they were gutted to see another 'local' referee. While you might expect them to say this, they claim that the refs often try to compensate for their locality by giving as much as possible to the travelling outfit. I can understand that, having ref'd my kids games before and felt oblidged to give most 50/50's against my boys team.

Regardless of this, I actually think he ref made baffling decisions for both teams.

- Truro's penalty was an absolute stone wall decision, push in the back. As has been said though, some similar offences hadn't been penalised but that doesn't account for the foul.

- Very suprised the ref didn't get the red out for a seriously high challenge by your no.6 who went over the top on no.6 for Truro. These are the challenges that need to be punished.

- The sending off was a no brainer for me. A professional foul, last man - red card.

- Windsor's penalty was equally stone wall and I was hugely suprised to see their players complain. It was a needless challenge made by the same player who had been booked earlier for a poor challenge which lead to Windsor's first goal. Quite how the linesman managed to find fault in the Truro goalies yard off his line baffled all around me.

- The MASSIVE mistake that was made however was the 4th goal! I was on that side of the play and the ball was a good half yard out of play. The reason however that the linesman didn't see it was that he was too busy responding to some protestations from the Windsor bench. Not that I'm blaming them mind - BIG MISTAKE!

The second sending off was also unquestionable. Infact one of the Windsor subs was stood 5 yards from me and I won't use the same choice words he used to describe his team mates actions!

So, 4th goal aside I felt the ref got most of the big calls right. Albeit that they were in Truro's favour, re-taken penalty aside.

As I said before, I have no stake in either club and hope both get promoted. For what its worth I really enjoyed the game and noise made by both sets of fans.

Nice one.

Tom

Cheers laff i pretty much agree with you both sendings off were right in my view but its more the the fact that alot of little things went their way and who knows what would of happened if the lino was doing his job.

24 Hours on and i am still in shock how poor the Officals were!

As for the trip it was indeed the second day trip for some of us! Good to see such a big crowd in this leauge and if Truro keep them the 'credit crunch' wont be too much trouble for them!

If there was video footage of that incident the lino would be put down let alone struck off!!!

If everyone who was there sends a letter that will be 19 letters, they will just brush it off as 1% of the crowd. I do not resent the result, lets be honest after the first half they would probably have won, but if only some of the truro fans would say he was abysmal we could rid this league of a ref not fit to officiate at this level. Truro will fall foul of this type of officiating at some point and it is just not acceptable, i believe the ref in their match against totton ended up in four sendings off, was this right???

I will be sending a letter and hoping desperately that more genuine fans do, lets remove this [****!!****] idiots from this league!!!

There is clearly only an limited amount of refs in the near area. We can moan to the FA all we want but they will not give a toss!

Truro fans wont agree. We lost out and the benifted. Most of their fans are quite new so are in it for the good times! NOT real decent non-leauge fans, i know some are but not many!! After all alot of them dont even change ends!! laugh

Well firstly Thanks to Neil for organising what was a top day out and him and humpty for driving!

My take on the match... Well I think a point a piece would have been good however based on the match in front of me truro probably deserved the win (if you take the officials in to account).

However I do think the poor standard of both the ref and the lino (errr... read assistant ref) spoilt what was set up to be a cracking game. I think Coops sending off probably was justified as he was the last man. But lets face it its not often he gets carded or makes mistakes so I'm not going to criticise.

Problem is in saying truro deserved the points is with a good set of officials I feel it would have been a very different game, just look at how we fought back when we went to 10 men. I can't help but feel the game officials stoped us playing football when decisions did go our way I can think of two occations once for Porter and once for Chens that the ref blew the whistle and pulled everyone back for a free kick when clearly playing the advantage rule would have been the best option. Instead he chose to kill the game and flow.

As for the ball going out off the side of the pitch... well that has to be one of the most ridiculous errors of judgement I have ever seen by officials at any level of football. They deserve to be struck off on that alone. If you can't even follow or keep up with the game you shouldn't be out there full stop!

As I have already said when we went to 10 men we really showed some guts and played well, given good officials I do honestly think we would have pulled a draw but all credit to truro who's strikers looked dangerous all night it still could have gone either way! They are no doubt at all a very good team. But i do honestly still think we could beat them.

Keiths subs i thought worked well Ben certainly did one of the things he does very well and pulled them out of shape. Jake caused trouble pushing truro back and making thier winger reluctant to push up as much for the first time in the game. Wallows goal was an absolute peach of a strike on the turn.

I guess whats done is done and credit (again) to Truro they have a nice club, good beer and certainly all the fans and stewards I talked too were really friendly and welcoming (which is more than I can say for thier keeper)! If it wasn't such a trek I would definately look forward to going there again.

I will probably also write to the FA as i feel a need to have my say. I'm not going to comment now on whether or not I think the ref was biased but just say he was poor and inconsistant at best.

As a last note I'd like to thank the players for coming over after the game it was a really nice touch and lads... you were robbed next time lets hope we will be allowed to play football.

Although a fun night and top day out I do feel slightly robbed myself of what could have been not a good but a great game of football with two equally matched teams.

Woody, I would hope Truro fans would agree he was an awful ref, and also that they deserved to win. It would have been a better game if we hadn't apparently frozen from the start.

We battled well in the second half, and had we started that way we could have done better, but they have scored 8 past us in two games, that isn't lucky, that is a good football team.

If I am being honest I thought Totton looked better against us in both games, but we defended stoutly and managed not to get a player sent off.

Although come May the league doesn't lie and you get what you deserve and the best team will be top. I fear Truro will take it and we will have to play Totton, going to be a tense end to the season!!!!

Surely, a touch young to be officiating at W&E's level of football, Steve ??

I thought it was only CCL Div 1 that had boy-scouts out there in black !

Rebel you are bang on! However if we don't win the league this year it will be because of our recent slip ups against other teams that had we beaten would have made this Truro match less significanth However we all remember Lewes, so who knows what may happen in the ensuing month or so.

By the way, what's your beef with Dedworth? I'm currently undertaking important missionary work in that locale and they haven't tried to eat me.....yet!
