AFC Hornchurch Supporters Club

Recommended Posts

I spoke to the club last week about forming a supporters club,it is something they want as much as some of the fans do.

I feel that as a group we could do alot for the club and as there are many volunteers doing jobs such as collecting 50/50,fanzines,selling programmes etc then something official needs to be in place. The idea is to get it up and running once the season ends in time for the start of next season.

Obviously we have a great band of fans but i do not want it to be limited to just the Eastside or forum users. It should be involving everyone,riverside/eastside/hasbeens hill etc etc.

Once up and running we will be given a slot at board meetings where two members can go in to the meeting for a little while to give a list of things we would like changed, grieviances, ideas etc etc

I spoke to a few people and the comeback was very positive but unfortunatly i couldn't speak to everyone.

Also i would like to combine the travel into the supporters club to make it more official.

Can i please have some ideas off of you guys as to the way we should go about this, ideas, interest etc.

Once we have got some ideas etc a meeting will be arranged towards the end of season so we can get the ball rolling.

Supporters clubs are of benefits to clubs not just in having a say but to help the club raise funds by events etc on matchdays and function nights, please get involved to help the club.

cheers

rob

Mental, you've done the hardest part - getting the Board to recognise the importance of the fans. And, allowing you a say at meetings. Most supporters clubs can only dream of this.

Some time ago at Angels there was a drive for fans to be able to buy a seat on the board. The figure set was

don't really want a say in how a club is run, just want to be able to give ideas an airing and try to help whenever possible.Same for most fans.

I am sure the club and the comittee etc will do a grand job,we will try to assist them whenever possible. But i would like as many fans as possible to join the supporters club as it will only benefit the club

I'm a 60's kid. It was no longer available free or otherwise frown

But, back to the topic.

I was born in 1963, and seem to remember 1969 being the year. You'd probably only just progressed to long trousers wink

Rob

This is something I have advocated now for the last two seasons.

A supporters club can do a lot to help the club - and this list is not intended to be a criticism of anyone who already does some of these jobs - it is simply a list of what a good supporters club can be involved with, if only to take some of the weight off of those who already do the jobs. It can run, or help to run -

coach travel - very important to encourage away support.

stewards

programme sales

programme production

social and other fund raising events

club shop

jackpot / fifty fifty sales

ball boys

publicity (I don't think we have a press officer)

commercial / fund raising

sponsorship of players / matches

player of the match / year

odd jobs, such as painting, maintenance

An annual membership fee is essential, if only to get some money into the kitty to start things off. Not too sure what other clubs charge, but

Nice one dagger, can i ask that this thread is kept to ideas and suggestions and nothing to do with milk(i was receiving free milk at school in 1980 and then that was it)

it just makes it easier to get peoples ideas and not miss any

We will have a meeting, hopefully the likes of blackballed, dagger and some of our older fans will be interested smile

Great ideas dagger,i think we should see what the interest is like on here, had a few people saying they would join up at least on saturday so the interest is definatly there and maybe at the next home game we can talk about it and arrange a meeting at the club for a week or so later, hopefully we can have someone with in an official capacity from the club to sit with us to make sue our ideas can work within the clubs remit.

i heard that you'd only recently kicked the free milk habit from your mother rob...

think an idea is that if you want a meeting to organise forming a supporters club then we should publicise the meeting in the matchday programme, in the club shop and over the tannoy at the next home game. possibly arrange it for the following day at the club when the kids team is playing? this will mean that the involvement won't just be the forum users or just the people that go in the bar.
