Uncle Urchin
now of course in the WW2 film kelly's heroes... starring clint eastwood.... bridges were made quite famous for a completely different reason...the theme song burning bridges....written and produced by henry mancini (which if I recall became a top ten NME chart hit) was synonymous at the time with the last days of the vietnam war and the destruction of the entire bridge network of south east asia by the american B52's (slung a few of them down me neck in my time an' all I can tell thee) anyway sorry.... I digress...such was the furore over the destruction of the ancient bridges and given the anger against the war at the time.. the song became an anti war hymm for every pinko liberal commie loving producer of films and tv proggies in the states and was much vaunted in andy warhol's documentary...they thought it was all over and it is now...this was later plagarised by kenneth wolstenholme at some football match or other and indeed warhol's effort was quite obviously a take off from the famous and now cult classic lines from the walter pidgeon and anna neagle WW2 film made in 1948 they flew by night where pidgeon swept anna into his arms on the rain swept runway...looked up into the skies and said... its all over now my darling.. they were just a bunch of fly by nights... Uncle Urchin
and here in all its glory.. Friends all tried to warn me But I held my head up high All the time they warned me But I only passed them by They all tried to tell me But I guess I didn't care I turned my back and Left them standing there All the burning bridges that have fallen after me All the lonely feelings and the burning memories Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door Burning bridges lost forevermore Joey tried to help me find a job A while ago When I finally got it I didn't want to go The party Mary gave for me When I just walked away Now there's nothing left to say All the burning bridges that have fallen after me All the lonely feelings and the burning memories Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door Burning bridges lost forevermore Years have passed and I keep thinking What a fool I've been I look back into the past and Think of way back then I know that I lost everything I thought I that could win I guess I should have listened to my friends All the burning bridges that have fallen after me All the lonely feelings and the burning memories Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door Burning bridges lost forevermore Burning bridges lost forevermore
