Harlow Town V Billericay Town results

Recommended Posts

From the Match Report on the Web Site:-

"Harlow's Sam Berry went in to a tackle on Leon Hunter with studs showing and was shown a straight red, as was Hunter who retaliated with a push on Berry."

I thought Leon's was a second Yellow?

I was more interested in the expected length of Leons ban.

An interesting afternoon when due to injuries we were able to see how some of our youngsters would cope. I thought all three did very well although I thought Dean struggled a little to get the pace of the game. But that was his first game at this level whereas the others have had a few games to get the feel of it. I thought we played some good football at times and looked like we were a team with everybody working hard for eachother. It was especially nice to see and hear Jo instructing the youngsters and advising them what to do and where to go. I understand it was the 1st time Lee has played 90 mins since he was 18. So lets move on to Tuesday, get a big crowd of support behind the lads and get to that final.

I thought there was a lot of positives from Saturday.

It was such a contrast from Tuesday in the workrate of all players that was so much better to see. The result still bemuses me as we certainly weren't 3 goals worse.

Dean Etchell (sp?) put himself about and looks promising.

He could probably do with having an extra pie or two (but I wouldn't recommend the "Ed Burger"!)

From what I've seen of him, Frankis always works hard, but it hasn't quite come together for him yet at the senior level.

I, too, didn't hear any particular criticism at the game, so don't see why there's complaints against it.

I think as a group of supporters, we tend to accept defeat without moaning if we go down with a bit of effort, which is as it was on Saturday.

This is my first visit to the forum with a comment but just wanted to add to other comments about the youngsters performance on Saturday.

I thought they all performed well and gave encouragement for the future at BTFC. With more experience and some good coaching (come on Lee Hodges) great prospects for the future - assuming we can hang on to them.

Dem's wise words mate.

And I'm sure the same will apply at Tilbury tomorrow.

I have to agree - the youngsters did really well at the game on Saturday. Frankis is certainly comfortable on the ball and not afraid to get stuck in. Harrison has great pace and crosses the ball well. Etchells did well had a good chance on target in the first half. These guys are the future of our club and any experience they get this season will only benefit us next season. You learn much more when things don't go so well. It was great to see Hodgey on the pitch before kick-off coaching the lads and a few people have mentioned Flackie coaching Etchells during the game. All good to see and all bodes well for the future.

It was a difficult day for the Club on Saturday being down to a small number of fit players. It will be even more difficult tomorrow at Tilbury. But if we're gonna do it, we're gonna have to do it the hard way which will make any victories in the next few games that much sweeter.

PS I see Martin O'Neil came in for some stick from his own fans yesterday as they appear to be stuttering to reach the very high expectations their early season promised and their fans now expect. So at whatever level you are in football, some fans are always going to be fickle and not content unless you spend millions and are winning and playing attractive football week in week out. I hope our Managers and players realise that. You can take your team to 5th in the Premier League, within touching distance of 4th and still get booed off at the end of a game. Football - it isn't always fair and it often defies logic but I love it!

I think the majority of fans would take offence at the accusation that those of us who have openly voiced our disapproval of the team over the past few weeks are fickle and should stay at home and watch Sky! This club belongs to all of us and we support it through thick and thin. Everyone handles adversity differently. Some will openly voice disapproval, others will hide on this forum and voice their concerns and others will just put the blinkers on and act as if nothing is wron, with the hope that things will improve. Who is to say whos attitude is right? All that we must agree on is that we support Billericay Town and the fact we continue to turn out in our numbers proves that.

I personally heard no booing or sl*gging off of the players or management on Saturday, in fact the opposite before we went three down and lets be honest we were shockingly poor on quality. But I think we have all realised now that we are starting the rebuilding for next season. The fact that the managers have not performed is still something that I think the chairman will have to look closely at before deciding who to rebuild the team with though.

On a positive note I think that the youngsters performed really well when they came on, lets hops they continue to get the opportunity to improve over the the next couple of months.

Me neither - I think we were pretty united throughout on Saturday. Our main beef seemed to be with the ref!

Plus I didn't say that anyone who voices their disapproval is fickle - I just said that some fans of any club are always going to be fickle - that's just life. That's what keeps the sports talk shows going and what makes this forum worth reading. Long may it continue.

I wonder if the slagging off was the harlow bloke who was shouting his head off about how bad the football was and in particular no. 10. Not sure if he meant the PM though.

By the way TC and i missed most of the 1st half watching the lino, aka wayne sleep, bouncing up and down the line on his toes. A sight to be beleived.
