Kazaa

Recommended Posts

Well, the way i see it(and i know im going to lose this arguement but still..)that i wont be buying these songs, anyway,if i really like a song or album i will buy it,its more convient than having to listen to it through dodgy speakers on a computer! The majority of the songs are old anyway, and i cant find them in the shops!

The people i know that have kazaa dont use it for home taping but i realise that it is a problem, and i think something needs to be dont about that, there must be some way of stoping it.I dont think home taping is right but i wouldnt go as far as to say it is killing music, well, not yet anyway.

Most of the songs i download i only listen to a few times,so its no different from listening to a song on the radio(i know someones going to prove me wrong on that one...)

For the record(lol, had to be said..)-I dont home tape

Alright, so anyway...

Fleet boy. Do you have Windows XP?

Someone I know has been saying how programmes that download music are prone to hacking, with people able to log into your computer (through your Shared Folder etc) and see personal stuff, private detaisl etc. Have you ever experienced any of this?

Someone else I know told me the other day that their internet connection has crashed due to the fact that they installed Kazaa, then simply uninstalled it. This caused the internet to go AWOL.

??

Hey GHA, I use Kazaa and also have Windows XP. I've heard all these 'facts' about it and I have to say I haven't had any problems so far. Mind you, once I've downloaded a song, (I only use it for songs, not movies etc.) I remove it from my Shared Folder immediately just incase. Haven't had any problems with internet just the usual major slow down while downloading.

Are you getting the Windows Messenger Pop-Ups?? The occasional advert, and also pop-up for 'MessengerBlocker' etc, which provides a way to stop them (costing $30). I'm pretty sure they're just another form of pop-up, but some people have been expressing concern, especially at the ad that says 'you're broadcasting your internet address etc...people are hacking you...blah blah.'

I've not got xp,i've not had any major problems(yet),i've downloaded a few songs before where the song has been blank, which is strange so i've deleted those imediately. I've got norton anti-virus and i scan my computer regularly so i SHOULD catch the virus before it can do to much damage. I do get pop-ups but i think these are just due to alot of sites having pop-ups as advertising.

I had a couple of them in the beginning, but they seem to have declined since. I get the odd rogue once in a while though. I'm sure they're just the way Kazaa is funded, it can't stay online with people stealing material all the time and not have any income...trouble is some people are so gullible they'll do anything to get their website noticed...especially those cheesey American ones!!!

I have XP at home GHA, and I get 'em all the time. Whether they can read your internet address is irrelavent, anyone who wants to enough can hack into your files if they thought it was worthwhile, it's just spam to get you to buy unnecessary crap.

But I'm 90% certain that administrators of websites you visit can see your browsing history, up until the last deletion of your cookies and internet cache. It goes without saying that the 'powers that be' can as well.

Ask Cyclops, he'll know for definite!

  • 2 weeks later...

It is true that the full version of Kazaa used to be full of nasty gremlins that were more than capable of doing nasty things to your hard drive. Kazaa Lite, however, should be spyware free.

We use winmx - available from http://www.winmx.com - guaranteed spyware free, and we've had no problems. By the way, it's not just file sharing programs that cause problems with hackers if you're on broadband. You should always install a decent firewall if you're on broadband - but you already knew that, didn't you?
