MFC 0, Canterbury City 1 - Friendly .......

And here is the Canterbury City report.

After the disappointing display against Lydd, City stormed back into top form with confidence-building Friendly victory over a Margate side made up almost entirely of First team squad players.

City's first half performance was calm and considered while the second was even better, with some outstanding moves and a remarkable winning goal from new player Darren Abbott who chipped the ball over the Margate goalkeeper and into the top far corner of the net. The goal was the product of a fine move that saw Calum McGeehan lay on the final incisive pass that gave Abbott his opportunity.

Being without both Royston Gough and Wayne Fittall, manager Dave Fairclough left Dan Bonneywell as the lone central striker. Bonneywell worked relentlessly. In the early stages it was difficult for the midfield players to move up to support him but gradually they won control, and viewing the whole ninety minutes there was no doubt that City were the better side. Dave Read and Abbott came on to maintain the threat on the Margate goal and young goalkeeper Magriano confidently took the opportunity to impress.

CITY SQUAD: Wrench; Brooke, I. Hossick, Lockhart, Seagar, McGeehan, A. Hossick, Smith, Lawford, Tuite, Bonneywell, Gutsell, L. Jackson, Smissen, Baker.

In our report Sam Cliff came off at half time. and i think it was Winnett who was still on as it was Lewis and Bailey up front with Morris and Winnett in midfield and Taylor just in front. i thought most played well I thought Winnett seemed composed and held position well. Oli was good like normal. I thought it showed promise despite the result.

A scalp for them I suppose but to be honest the players were fringe players at best although 2 or 3 gave promising performances. Dispute the fact that they gained control I didnt think that occured at all really. Gate had the majority of the possession but had no reas chances to score and their goal was their only worthwhile attack.

Spot on GT, as I think I said in my report. Believe we look disjointed at times due to some players lack of match practice and youngsters trying to fit in with them. A worthwhile exercise though I think too.
