Soccer: Clark set for Town position

Former Southend United player and manager Paul Clark looks set to be unveiled as the new boss of Ryman Premier Billericay Town in the next 24 hours.

Clark is one of a number of former ex-Football League names -- Justin Edinburgh, Alan Devonshire and Ben Embery being others -- who have been linked with the New Lodge hot-seat since Gary Calder's four-year reign ended when he resigned a week ago.

But Town are expected to plump for one-time Basildon schools' star Clark, best known recently as assistant manager to former West Ham star Tommy Taylor at Leyton Orient.

Calder quit the club after cash cuts led to him losing the services of a host of established first-teamers during the second part of last season, which led to the club finishing in 12th position - the lowest placing of his managerial reign.
