couldnt agree more sweetman markII at the moment in just shuffling the pack hopeing that they will play well... thought this guy would have come in and brought more of his own players..... he must have seen enough regardless of 1 training session he has had 3 games!!! very nervous for saturday now! we lose sat were in a worse position than under sweetman and cant blame him for it as the new man would have had 4 games that were ALL very winable... dont like being negative but cant see where steve is going with the current squad... they dont wear the shirt with pride but certainly love the money they get at the end of it! (i aim that at some not ALL!)

the refs blatant ignoring of the linesmans offside flag to the extent the linesman just put the flag down and let play continue with the wrong team having the advantage was comical

Romeo shouldnt have had to have been helping the defence so much especially when we had 3 in the centre of midfield 2nd half (not that they were easy to see)

worst thing was there was basically nothing positive to take from the game. a game that was at home to a team a couple of places above us. that is nothing to do with the new manager not having time with the team. those players are capable of much more. to have competed and lost i could have accepted but i dont think Abingdon even at all played at their best and yet we couldnt touch them

Really can't believe some of these postings. Looks like Sweetman's right about nonsense postings. There are some utterly pathetic postings on this thread. Bates has been here five minutes.

1)They are not his players, but you can't just get rid of players without seeing them play first to see if he can improve them and get confidence up. For example for all you know Bates could get DJ scoring 25+ goals again.

2) Players generally don't move till the summer. So getting players in-and-out is hard at this stage of the season.

3) We have a limited squad at the moment in terms of balance, which is very much where Sweets went wrong. ie four strikers, five centre backs and no real wingers and no real full-backs. Someone has to play there and Yash played very well there saturday. Yes he is a striker, but unless your going to go back to 5-2-3 where we were a shambles players will have to play out of positions.

4) We have two new players. One has hardly played this season and the other has not played for two years.

Get real people. Do some of you know anything about football?

they wouldnt Woody you are right but some fans seem to think they will or it appears that way

chris you make some good points

1) yes he cannot discard players instantly and it will take a few weeks

2) again yep there isnt going to be huge amounts of players who will want to move at this stage. however there is im sure players not getting 1st team opportunities that could be available but will take time.

3) again this point ties in with 1) slightly. i was always very confused as to why John Gray was allowed to leave because he "didnt fit into plans". we have been crying out for wingers to feed the quality of strikers we have this season compared to previous

4) didnt know those details about the 2 new guys. that would go someway in explaining why they seemed a bit off the pace last night fitness must be an issue.

I agree with you Woody it will not change overnight. The problem is that most of these players have been here since the start of the season, are getting paid a decent sum for playing at this level and some are still turning in crap performances, despite a change in

management. If they dont want to wear the shirt with pride, ship them out IMO.

Bearing in mind some of the poor attendances that other clubs in this division get, we don't want our faithful supporters to drift away. Our performances against the lower teams is not very good. In the main we perform well against the top sides, but don't play well aginst the teams in the bottom third. IMO we have chucked away at leat 15 points against teams that people expect us to beat.

Oh for heaven's sake. Bates has had two tuesday games, one saturday and one thursday training session. I said on the thread that announced his appointment that I had hoped people would give him a chance before they expected miracles. And I'm sure most of you have noted that the posts directly slagging off Bates are all from anonymous posters - which indicates that perhaps they have an axe to grind.

It was only one p1ss poor performance, let's not get carried away.

As Chris has pointed out, getting new players in may not be an option at the moment - personally I was amazed Bateman had managed to bring two in during his first week.

Thursday night training this week would be fascinating to eavesdrop on as I think this will be the first time the new management team will be able to stamp some authority on what needs to be done - but even then, it will take weeks if not months' worth of training for any new systems to kick in. This is why the club management acted now instead of waiting until the end of the season - this tail end of the 08/09 season can be used to put the foundations in place ahead of a proper charge next season.

Be patient - the results will come, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

I wasn't at Tuesday's game but I was at Bishop Cleave-and I thought everybody played well there, so the facts are that some of the players are not able to put two games together. It might be a bit late in the season to get DECENT players in,but we still made the right choice in getting shot of Sweetman.

I was very disappointed last night, but we have to keep this in perspective, he has only had 3 games and one training session, and we should not expect instant results.

That said, these players have been playing together for quite a while now, so these types of performances have to stop.

Was good to see sounds coming from our bench for once though!!

I agree with Charlie, it's not a huge surprise an anonymous poster is stirring the pot. Clearly someone looking for a reaction after Sweetman's departure and his comments.

I think most people (sensibly) realise it will take time. The way I see it, we're not going up or down. I realise we're not safe yet, but I think we'll be fine. Getting an experienced manager like Bateman in now will be good as he can assess the current squad in the remaining games this season and over the summer we'll see him build his own team. I have every confidence that next season will be better - just hold tight.

Did not think anyone was harsh towards sweetman he only got what he deserved, i was not expecting promotion but was expecting mid table at least not 18th position. Think saturday will now be crucial and if we lose then we are really in the mire and might have to rely on another reprieve as i dont think some of these players are capable of a fight against relegation.

I agree with a rebel and a saint, but what i dont like to see is the refs get in the way of the game.

To me the ref made a few bad calls and changed his mind at one point last night and he seemed a bit friendly with the Abington team.

Lets hope we can up the ante on saturday.

The ref certainly was poor last night, however had he not have played advantage in the build up to Abingdon's third goal, then Luke Evans without doubt would have picked up a second yellow card for the foul he committed on the Abingdon forward. At least we do not have another player suspended.
