Sponsored walk to Truro

Recommended Posts

Myself and Ashley Burton-Groves are organising a sponsored walk to Truro with some of the proceeds going to the supply of replica shirts for the club shop in sizes XXXXXXL and XXXXXXXL,as it has been noted that there is a high demand for these sizes.

Obviously Truro is quite far away,so it has been decided to split the walk over two days.The proposed itinerary is as follows;

Monday 23rd March-Walk to Windsor train station.

Walk home again.

Tuesday 24th March-cab to Slough

Train to Truro

Walk to ground

We both realise that this is no small undertaking,so we have enlisted the help of one of England's foremost experts in stamina and endurance-Spud.

He has advised that the best preparation would be to practise walking around until we get the hang of it.

To this end,a practice walk has been organised this Saturday, leaving Stag Meadow at 5.15,walking to the duke of york and then to the stag and hounds.

Please be advised that is a hilly route,so stout boots will be needed.

All are welcome.

(Well,no tight gits obviously}.

I see a couple of problems.

On the second day of the main walk, you haven't mentioned any way of getting back. This would leave you marooned at a football ground in Truro with no way of collecting the sponsorship money.

Also you might do extra distance by walking to and from the bar, so include this in the total.

I'd check your mapreader has this right. You do get more exercise, I suppose, but it's not the most direct route. So you may tire yourselves needlessly.

Good luck on this valiant endeavour.

I would be up for the practice walk but I fear the steep slope (at least 3% gradient) between the Duke of York and The Stag & Hounds would be my undoing.

I think us "novices" would be more comfortable visiting the Stag first and then heading downhill to the Duke of York.

If only they had the chinese van to give people refreshments then perhaps it would be easier. The slope out of the football ground is a challenge. When it was snowy i heard 4 people had to be rescued and suffered frostbite. Always prepare for all weather conditions.

Spud has decided to retire from public life and so,regretfully, will not be giving interviews to the media.

Instead he has turned his back on the material world, and he is now living in a hollowed out tree in the great park,(handy for home games} where he spends his days dispensing wisdom and succour to weary travellers, and those seeking enlightenment.

However,he has said that he is available to answer questions, through me,on subjects ranging from "the meaning of life",to "the best way to remove stubborn stains from clothing".

There will be a fee payable of

Make sure you take this exercise seriously! I would recommend you to hire two fitness coaches (one for each leg), a motivation coach, a team psychiatrist, a psychic, and a bloke on a bike with a whistle.

This gives you a most satisfactory ratio of three support staff per competitor, roughly on a par with the England Cricket team (but obviously way below the Olympics set up!)
