Out of the Southern League Cup...

Spanked away to Swindon, 3-0. I doubt the match report will have much goodness.

Don't know what the team we put out was like (and I can certainly understand the Colonel having mixed feelings about wanting to go further, given the fixture congestion already), and two late goals may have made the match look more one-sided than it actually was.

But a cup's a cup, and we'd looked to have a decent chance of this one. Instead we hit our biggest defeat for months.

So, hopefully this won't serve as a warning for how we'll cope if we are at the next level up next season!

We'd of put out a weaker side. Look at the observer website for scottys comments. This cup was not needed and i'd much rather win the league, AND the B&B please!, than this tin pot cup with no real history or money involed for us. I think the semi would of been away to bridgewater so thank goodness we lost!! I heard a rumour of an ex windsor player returning to the line up tonight. I wonder if that happend and quite frankly should be proof of how much we didnt want to win this!!

The semi or the final is two legs i heard so really with only one free tuesday night left it's a blessing we're out!

Malc even if you dont have time do write a match report could you post the line up?

I believe both the semi and the final are two legs, so where the hell do we potentially fit in four matches in the most important league season for years, quite frankly we don't and we can put our efforts into the games that count. If we win the league I donb't care about any other silverware.

Bring on AFC Hayes and hope the other results go our way so we can get a bit more of a gap between us and the rest.

UTR!!!!

Firstlt there was no spanking involved and I would like to know where you heard that from. The players that took part, 4 first team, 7 reserves and 2 youth all put in a very good performance.

Secondly yes it was a side made up mainly of reserve team and youth players with a total of 9 debuts.

The side that played did very well and were unlucky to be 1-0 down at half time. The had chances but were unfortunate. Two very late goals were down to nothing more than fitness.

Yes there was a returning player and for the twenty odd minutes that Paul Holsgrove played it looked like he had never been away.

As was rightly said to the players before the game, don't get hung up on the result. Basically we have a lot of matches to fit in before the end of the season and we cannot afford anymore players to be missing through injury or suspensions.

A decision was made as to what is more important, winning the league or a cup that is going to give the club no reward should we win it. Yes it is always nice to win a cup but the goal of the club is to progress up the leagues and that will not happen by worrying about things that will hinder that goal.

The most important thing at the moment is staying on top of the league and securing promotion.

Team line-up:-

1. Darren Walsh (Reserves)

2. Matt Mooney (Youth)

3. Tom Woodcraft (Reserves)

4. Mark Weedon (First)

5. Dave Tilbury (First)

6. Lurence Olney (Reserves)

7. Chris Cahill (First)

8. Tom Hall (Reserves)

9. Paolo Cicero (Reserves)

10. Adam Wallace (First)

11. Paul Abbott (Reserves)

12. Paul Holsgrove (Former First)

14. Tom Hartridge (Reserves)

15. Lewis Fogarty (Youth)

Actually it's reassuring to know that it was nothing like our first-choice team - and with players probably not used to playing together, at that, so if they showed up well it's good.

Some of the Swindon fans on their forum seemed to think it was fairly comfortable for them, with comments like:

Quote:
3-0 WAS A FAIR RESULT THOUGH WITH A BIT OF LUCK IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT MORE. FOR A SIDE TOP OF THE SOUTH WEST DIVISION WINDSOR WERE POOR, ALTHOUGH MARINE MADE THEM LOOK POOR WITH SLICK PASSING.

and

Quote:
Windsor really didnt look like a side that were top of the league in the league below. May show what a different standard is between the premier and the division one.

They seem to think we were fielding our standard side, and it was just weaker than they expected... Let's hope we meet Swindon at least twice next year: I think they will have more than a little shock.

Are we going to be putting out a similar side in the B&BC match, do you think? We've got two games every week for the rest of the season, so I can really understand not wanting to risk more than we have to, but it seems a shame to gift Maidenhead the same way...
