Here's our match report, if it helps:

Enfield Town Res (1) 2 Kamara 45; Packenham 64

AFC Hornchurch Res (2) 2 Green 23; Sweeney 44

Town secured a deserved point with an assured display against more experienced opposition in a match which was a splendid advert for the Capital League.

Fielding a side of eight of Tony Corrigan's U18 players, a number of whom are also U16s, Town proved more than a match for the visiting Hornchurch side which was packed with first XI experience and ex-Town players, 'keeper Jason Willis and attacking midfielder Dean Green. Willis was to play a pivotal role in the match but only after his side had fought hard to establish a two goal lead.

The opening exchanges were even with the best chance falling to Donny Barnard who lifted a shot narrowly over the Town bar from six yards out but under pressure from Sam Deaney. Midway through the first period Green rifled home the opening goal after Harry Ricketts had failed to clear his lines in attempting to punch away a deep centre. Non phased, Town stuck at their task with Billy Healey dragging a shot wide and Deaney hurrying Willis into a save with a placed shot on the half hour mark.

It was, however, Hornchurch who struck again when a Ricketts clearance took a cruel ricochet off a defender into the patch of Joe Sweeney who slotted home. This time though Town got a vital break just before the interval when Alex Kamara rifled powerfully into an unguarded net after Willis had spilled an Alex Cattini cross into his path. It proved to be the turning point.

A second period of assured football from the home side had the visitors on the back foot for most of the half. Although chances were at a premium the retention of the ball and the movement were very pleasing on the eye.

A deserved equaliser arrived courtesy of another Willis intervention when poor positioning from the Hornchurch custodian gave him no chance to clear away a Town attack properly, the ball landed off Willis to a grateful Joe Packenham who netted the rebound with aplomb and with possibly his first touch of the game.

Town's hard work was almost undone with ten minutes remaining when Barnard's shot on the turn comprehensively beat Ricketts and hit the inside of the post. Perhaps Town deserved their bit of luck when the ball bounced out of harms way rather than over the line.

A final word is reserved for the referee, Carl Henry, who officiated in a manner that allowed this very watchable contest flow from start to finish.

Joe Sweeney is ex Millwall I think. Believe he was playing at Brentwood recently.
