basilricay has league potential.. that is for sure.. a fan base that would number probably over a thou at conf south level .. it needs basildons population and riccays league standing.. but obviously it would be basildon utd and of course you would lose all credibility for 5 years...or until you won the league by 25 points and beat sarfend inthe f.a.cup.. its funny how quickly things can change..;-)

Canv, Y do U think Basildon FC are where they are huh? It's 'cos they don't give a s*i*e about their football team....Tell me wot would be different if there woz a Basilricay? None except all the supporters would have to drive from Billericay....Now Y would we need to do that?

(Okay, lets not answer that one)

we only pay for excellence.. well most of the time ;-)

what with hornchurch and grays there is plenty of cash in non league in south essex at the moment.. surely a town like billericay must have some super rich descendant somewhere... maybe you'll find bill gates family stepped off the mayflower way back when..

LOL.

I prefer to read the news about our new manager putting in place a youth policy to develop some home grown talent that would be proud to put on the blue shirt and not just turn out to line their pockets. Although you in Canvey wouldn't really know about that as Mr. King doesn't have the financial constraints we have.

My thoughts about a youth policy is that, if you look at the successful teams in the World, not only do they buy talent but their foundation is usually on the people they developed locally....Wouldn't U agree...?

The problem with youth teams is the gap to first team football

I believe there is a Conference move to start a league for those clubs with a center of excellence and with the best available youth playing each other on a regular basis it will assist the younger player bridge the gap

attempting to compete with lads released from full time pro apprenticeships is a bit tough for the local lads

i agree with both of the above, but not so sure it works at this level.. the big clubs have plenty of facilities and scouts around, any real talent will end up at charlton or west ham or spurs youth acadamys, having one at this level wont attract players good enough for conf south.. your better off picking up the players that dont make it in league football... sure this wont give you the die for billericay player you are talking about but that attitude will be down to the individual and the managers motivational ability

With you Canv but due to circumstance I spent several years observing up-close how the pro clubs deal with apprenticeships and there is no doubt the penny does not drop for many lads until they are circa 19/20 years of age

By this time the pro club has often let them go and we could all name lads that went into apprenticeship, out to non-league then back to full time

Where non-league centers of excellence could score is in bringing these lads along and taking the money later for some and developing solid non-league careers for the others

true.. but thats costs money.. most clubs at ryman level are either funded by rich people or can just afford to stay where they are.. this long term stuff that everyone is so keen on and always planning ahead dont count for [****!!****] in my book.. its all about cups runs and doing your local rivals or the top teams in your league.. if we were in ryman 1 i'd want to beat the stones.. if we were in the conf i'd want to stuff the daggers and the fleet.. all this long term stuff is irrelevant in my book, play with what you have now,,, next season can look after itself.. basically its all relative if you get my drift..

I can't see any reason for large Premier League Clubs or Division clubs affiliating themselves to a non league club to help with the development of young players to help share with the cost. They have the money, the Non League structure have the competitive situation.

It would help spread the wealth a bit, financial and talant wise...But as this sounds "a bit socialist" and the football environment isn't one to share (despite what every Manchester United or Arsenal supporter would say in it's defence...) this won't happen.

As U say CANV, money. The rich clubs have got it and won't filter it down to help and support the lower divisions. And my opinion it is the root of evil as far as the football structuring in this country.
