ETFC v's Northwood

Enfield United

Recommended Posts

Looks like we are back in action tonight, unfortunately, I'm out of London and will miss the game. Can you guys/dolls let us have a brief write up on how the match went please.

I think with the extra training opportunities, our new team will be ready to take on the tough challenge of Northwood, who managed to get their game played over the weekend, so they will have a slight advantage there.

I'm going for a 2-0 Town win, but its gonna be a well earned win.

We started brightly and had two good chances in the first ten minutes.

First half was end to end stuff however they kept Walton busy and we could not get past their back line.

Second half, especially after their goal, it seemed to me that their superior fitness was telling. In the end they were worth their win and we desperately need strikers. In the circs it is difficult to understand why more effort was not made to keep Ricci and Jeff.

With regard to the two and later 3 new players in the side. I though simon winston(?) centre forward was good and needs to have the ball to his feet. We did not get forward in numbers to offer him support but he knows where goal is and could develop into a fine finisher.

Michael Deane got injured after around 20 minutes and having seen the Chatham game and heard about his display against Wingate and Finchley that was a bad loss.

Rudi had a good game - got booked towards the end - it seemed for mouthing at the lino but people nearer to the incident will know more than me.

It was good to see Dave Bastian back in the side.

All in all Northwood could play the long passes as they knew each other and knew where there support should be. We played short passes and did not find space. Northwood used the wings well whereas we had difficulty getting to the bye line and, when we did, either did not get the cross in or if the cross went over there was not enough bodies in the box.

Well it was a 1 - 0 loss but we took the game to them and they were an impressive if not a little short team. We made 5 changes before the game so not surprising we did not win really!

team from memory was Walton, Cameron, Bastian, McKie, Fitzgerald, Williams, Mckoy, Hall, Winston, Edgar, Deane. Campana, May, Marshall, ?, Ricketts, Blower.

We played well for so many changes. The strikers did not have sufficient working understanding and were falling over each other a bit. Full backs went forward too much for me as I felt we did not show Northwood enough respect. Having said that the negativity would have made this a boring game to watch.

Walton made a great point blank save. Deane took a knock in first half and limped off. Otis Williams in midfield limped most of second half until the bench woke up and Campana came on for him (and gave a good account).

Northwood even brought away fans.

Wall to wall managers watching both teams including Aveley.

At the end of the day if you don't shoot on target you won't score. Simple.

We had ONE shot on target in the 85th min and the keeper spilt it.

All the changes meant there was no flowing, passing football - we were very disjointed.

Northwood deserved their victory and it was a game that was always going to be just 1 - 0.

I intended on being there but ended up at Old Trafford taking the boys to watch United v's Fulham, United have never lost in our presence.

Sounds like Northwood are a very decent team and this was alays going to be a fantastic result if we won and an 'acceptable defeat' if we lost.

The long break did not help our management teams preperations and I'm presuming the game Northwood got in over the weekend assisted them last night, as the webmaster put it, 'they were less rusty'.

The optimist that I am, I'm putting this down to one of only 4 defeats we can afford if we are gonna be 5th at the end of the season. We need to have the belief to remain driven.

OOT

A glancing header from Swinson (?)

And there was a shot which just missed from number 7 I think. These were only half chances but were decent efforts and would have been very good goals.

I agree with you and OT that we did not get shots on target - which should have been however I dont think we were that bad. Northwood have impressed on both occasions we have played them this year but .either they have got worse since we played them early in the season or we have improved.

I think that the future is bright but it will take an effort to qualify for the playoffs. I still feel that there is one place up for grabs as Waltham Abbey are not good enough. If they dont make the playoffs do you really think that Concorde, Ware, Tilbury will beat us to a place. We have to play all of those. Also East Thurrock at home. At this time we are 17 points away from a play off spot with 51 to play for. I think it is a remote possibility but "no chance" is not a true reflection of the possibilities. I put our chances at around 33-1

Injured. Together with the 3 suspended and the crocked Michael Deane, that makes 6 good players out. It was never going to be pretty!

Injured I can understand. Suspensions - bl..dy stupid. Do they not realise that their actions are costing the club?
