Staines 2 - 1 Canvey

Recommended Posts

Desperately unlucky not to come away with a point on Saturday in my opinion. We played well, and didn't deserve to go away empty handed.

They had the first 20 minutes and looked as though they were going to smash us. But we weathered the storm and kept it to 1-0, and then started putting pressure on ourselves. When Halle (MOTM) equalised, we started playing like the Canvey earlier in the season.

Second half they had the greater deal of possession, and Ricky did well to save a soft penalty. The goal right at the end was gutting, but I certainly came away from the ground a lot happier than I did when we played Hendon there.

Even though we have only picked up 4 points from the last 4 matches, we have certainly looked a lot better, and I'm sure that soon we can start consistently turning these defeats into draws and draws into wins.

Well done to the travelling support once again, large in numbers and loud as always. Put the home fans (and their tw*ts of a management team) to shame.

GUTTED!!! The referee was one of the worst i have seen all season! he missed an obvious hand ball in the build up to there first goal. And gave a penalty that never was. At least the lad's rallied well and put in a good display they shouldn't take the loss to heart and must look at the fact that they played well and deserved a point.

thought the lads have showed steady improvement over the last few weeks, even in defeat against Hornhurch we dominated the game and should have got something from it.

Against Staines I thought the lads worked their socks off and gave as good as Staines over two games with them now. The last few games show that if John just puts out his best 11 players you have a chance. Saturday's line-up is by far our best formation with srength through the middle and pace to burn on the wings. Jay is working really hard up front and this can only develop him as a player. I think we are forced to play 1 up front as we do not have another CF at the club up to the standard of this league. You could put Gabs or Gordon up front but then you take the pace threat from the wings.

I think we've proven time and again that we can score bundles of goals with a lone striker, and until we find a second striker worthy of this league the lads that started on saturday shold work at it and i'm sure the points will start to tally up again.

Totally agree with you Warleystar with regards to the second striker issue..

Leon Antoine is more then capable of playing at Ryman Prem Level. He has the pace and strength to cause any defence in this league problems, its just unfortunate that he has picked up 2 or 3 injuries this season.

Unfortunatly to sign a top top striker at this level is probably the most expensive position to fill but im sure John is always on the look out for players he feels can come in and improve the squad but at the same time not cost the earth.

Missed the game Saturday as I was in Portugal but heard we were unlucky to lose.

Hopefully we can bounce back with a victory over Ramsgate on Saturday.

Agreed shedboy but maybe if we let a couple or three of the lads who never get a game go we could afford to bring in one solid CF at this level
