On A Serious Note !

Have any of you other guys and girls experienced this problem with your ISP of late ?

 

My wife is owner and controller of the family computer. Because either or both of us are at home most of the day, we subscribed through our ISP, (Tiscali), on their 'Anytime' system.

 

Out of the blue last week, she received an E-mail from Tiscali saying we were well over 150 hours usage in the previous 3 months, and suggested we should switch to their broadband service, or they may have to consider terminating our service if we didn't reduce our hours usage to well under 150 hours a month.

 

I have since learnt from a few friends that Freeserve are trying the same approach to their customers.

 

Now ! Excuse me, but as we dont need or wish to subscribe to broadband, we both consider 'Anytime' to mean exactly what it says !

 

Any constructive comments or observations would be appreciated.

They would argue they mean 'any time' as in you can connect any time you like, not be on it 'full time'!

 

Anyway, if you can afford it, Broadband is great, it frees up the phone line so you don't have to use a mobile while you're online, and it's up to ten times faster. Downloads are a piece of cake and if you're into gaming, they run much faster and more efficiently I hear.

 

And no, I don't work for BT/Freeserve/AOL etc <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

RTS- they take the pi**, double the price, it only takes a couple of minutes tops to dial up, some of us aren't interested in downloads, just want to browse... I have broadband at work and it's not that much faster.

£13:49 a month. 24/7 unlimited usage. generally reliable.

I was told this morning that it is an advertising 'threat' to get you change over to Broad-Bean !

At the risk of being a tad pedantic, it may be an advertising "threat" but I believe I.S.P.s like A.O.L. etc do have a set limit in their anytime packages and it is 150hrs/month.
