Disgraceful - stats and report

I've never really commented on refs as it always seems to be sour grapes but this one was beyond belief. Whether we would have won the game with a decent ref is up for debate but he cost us today. It was never a freekick for their first goal, the sending off was debatable and how he missed their defender make a deliberate hanball offence was unbelievable. It is difficult for officials but I saw it 60 yds away on the 'hump'. I understand he was being assesed today I would say he needs to be sectioned!!

The referee was a wan ker and and every one knows it. For the first goal our keeper seems to stand with his hands in the air as the ball went past him into the net. The second goal he stood and watched it go in to the net. i thought it was us spectators who watched the game not the players. Then two one one's, one hit the bar and the second hit the back of the net.

I have to say the report is distinctly unimpressive.

Firstly, the free kick for the first goal wasn't taken by Byron Harrison. Byron doesn't take free kicks.

Secondly, the goal is clearly headed in by Gavin Smith, as shown in the video clip. How the reporter cannot distingush between Smith and Harrison is beyond me...

wingnut - take it you're one of the folks that need a middlesex in brackets after your name... ffs - the first goal is far from clear cut. none of your own players knew who scored, as is *clearly shown in the video clip*

sorry the match report isn't to your liking. if you'd bothered to turn up today, i'm sure you'd have found the referee to your liking and would be rather happy with the 3 points gift wrapped as a valentines present courtesy of said ref.

I would have loved to have been at the game yesterday - I've always enjoyed my visits to Hornchurch in the past. Sadly, a little thing called "work" got in the way!

I could clearly make out Gavin Smith scoring the goal on the video, but then that's probably because I know what he looks like! After all, it's not as if he looks like Byron, is it?

I also thought that putting such emphasis on the ref's "performance" made your reporter seem bitter and petty.

But hey, each to their own. It'll be see what our own match report has to say about the game.

I don't - I disagree with the way the report focussed on the referee and I find it hard to believe that the referee was the only reason Ashford won the game.

After all, if the reporter can't tell two forwards apart who could not be more physically different, how can the rest of his account be credible?

well it is credible, mistakes are made from time to time unless like yourself our reporter is superhuman then he will make them too.

The fact that the referee sent our player off for what can only be described as a yellow card at the most obviously contributed to the final result. We was all over you at the time and it knocked us back a bit, believe me mate, the referee was bloody awful and wanted to be the focal point in a report

I never claimed to be superhuman. But if you look at the pen pictures of Gavin Smith and Byron Harrison you'll understand why I think it's a bit of a glaring error!

You can think what you like about the referee. I have no opinion of him, because I didn't see the game. But the report mentions that the referee was being assessed - if he really was as bad as you feel, then that will be reflected in his assessment.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

That certainly sounds like Jason Willis.

Mr. Wingnut our 'reporter' attends all our games - home and away - and provides excellent writeups which are enjoyed and much appreciated by our fans. Sometimes the reports are written with tongue very firmly in cheek which adds a touch of humour. Compiling these match reports takes a great deal of time and effort and I personally find your criticism highly objectionable. How much work do you do for your Club? I assume very little because if you did then you would recognise the work of a dedicated volunteer - and volunteers are the life blood of Clubs at our level.
