When we had Dave Carroll as a manager we knew he wasnt good enough but we took our time and got someone a hell of a lot better in and that is the major reason why we're enjoying this season!

To be fair, Dave did his best but I don't think he had the requisite nastiness to gee the players up, which maybe does sound like Sweetman... however I wouldn't say that Simon Lane was "a hell of a lot better". Simon was good at spotting talent, that's clear from the team he left us with, but he didn't match that on the pitch.

However what decent manager would move during the season?

Well, the Colonel's the one who's been superb at getting results with largely the squad he inherited, plus a few returnees. And he *did* join us mid-season!

I've only seen Slough the once this season, and I was impressed by how well they played us. No question in my mind that the squad has the skills and determination to stay up and indeed do well in this league.

As a neutral I thought AFC Hayes outplayed, outfought and outclassed Slough town in every department, considering they are playing without a budget Joe Mitchell, Colin Murphy and Danny Vincent are working miracles.

i agree 4-4-2 is much better for us but we dont have quality wingers

thought it was worth moving to 4-4-2 when allaway went off with either platt or romeo moving to the wing temporarily at least to try and change the course of the game

can only assume sonny was injured and tbh he didnt look fully fit once he did come on

at least 1 new midfielder needed asap even if its just to give us more than 2 players as real options from the bench

I think their defence was very well organised and worked well as a unit but they just had too much time on the ball as in the middle of the park as we were asking Fermie and Brown to do the work of two men each. When Allaway got injured it was the ideal opportunity to correct the error in the original line up but instead we stuck with the status quo.

The subsitution of Fermie for Sonny was crazy. It left us in the same position and was asking miracles of Sonny.

At the moment we are lacking a winger - so maybe 4-3-3 is the way forward but we need to be playing Sonny, Brown and Fermie in midfield together if we are to have any chance of picking up points.

Pretty much agree with everything. Wacking great hole in our midfield filled by their players and long ball time after time up to the front three. So frustrating. We should be cabable of matching the likes of Brook House, even on their bog.

We'd better get used to those conditions, 'cos that's the kind of clubs we're going to end up playing week in and week out if there's no change in management. In fact the Manager could do us all a favour if he decided it hasn't worked out and resign.

We badly need to start playing 4-4-2, unless we magically bring 2 proper wing backs and another very strong midfielder.

We have not had a wide player since John Gray left, yes he did not have the best of starts to the season, but at least he would get to the by-line and try and get a cross in. We have not replaced him at all and have not had a right-winger all season.

When was the last time you saw one of our players get to the by-line and cross the ball in on a regular basis?

A player who used to to do that but from a central position was Pritch. But we have no width and I for one was disappointed when John Gray left.

Supposed ref, here is the opinion that you played dumb to yesterday. Papoli was 2 yards off when the flick was made, the same player then followed up his own, first shot. This is unclear in any picture of Garys. So if you want some compliments, go fish! Just a shame you wouldn't discuss it at the time yesterday rather than wave players away. Look forward to you running the line in future.

just thought i would add a comment here as i just cant help myself!!!

I seem to remember that many of you were very quick to put AFC Hayes down earlier in the season, some saying they were going to be the leagues guaranteed 3 points?!?!? how many points have u managed to nick off them?

Remember, your team is in the same league as them, so no matter what u call them i.e tin pot side, pub team etc etc they are in the same league as u and deservedly so, possibly even more so seeing as u got relegated technically last yr! so some of u need to get off ur high horses and realise where u r and start showing some respect!

AFC Hayes have now taken 6points from slough and deservedly so. The manager has no budget, only 3players are paid regularly and believe me, its not much, barely expenses! they have lost their 3 best players from last yr, funnily enough all play for u now although none r showing the class from when they were at AFC Hayes! They have no support as i am sure u have seen, yet they are still able to beat sides consistantly such as urselves!

surely questions have to be asked of ur management etc??? and perhaps u need to look at yourselves and realise ur in the same league as AFC Hayes, ur no longer a big conference club etc and to start showing a bit more respect to other sides, players and management, something that was clearly missing on sat

I THANK U :-)

Interesting comments Bob.

In fairness the reason most people predicted AFC Hayes would struggle is because they lost some of their best players, have no budget and don't have huge support. If you ranked the teams in order of budget AFC Hayes would be near the bottom and it would be reasonable to assume that would be reflected on the pitch. I don't think it is a coincidence that Bracknell, Winchester and Andover are all struggling on next to no budget.

What AFC Hayes do have however is passion, organisation and a team ethic which is clearly bringing them results. It was not going to be an easy game on Saturday and once again we got what we deserved which was nothing.

I can assure you that nobody that continues to follow Slough thinks we are a big club. I am not sure we have even got into double figures in terms of victories over the last two and bit seasons which isn't big club form!

I thought some of the AFC players were decent chaps and enjoyed a good laugh with one or two during the course of the game. It is a hugley impressive achievement that AFC are clearly going to more than comfortably survive and you have to put that down to the management.

i was expecting a bit more of a bite to be completely honest, well done on side stepping that!!!

i believe the budget their is the lowest in the league and at present they r def playing beyond what is expected of them and long may it continue! be nice to finish mid table to be honest

cant believe fermie doesnt start for u guys, when he was playing sat, thought he had done well??? but everytime he tried to play football he was told to just turn AFC Hayes around???

also, DJ is a striker, not a midfielder, anyone can see that! he needs to be playing on the last defenders, thats how he got all his goals for us etc

Can you also have more respect to other sides and maybe stop harking on about how much support you have which from the afc hayes game looks like it is now beginning to dwindle and then go on about how many home supporters there are behind the goal, funny i thought you were a supporter wherever you chose to sit or stand in the ground.

Regarding your on the fields troubles i think you need a manager who is perhaps prepared to kick some *** and not listen to his players where they want to play all the time, after all whos in charge.

Agree with Martin, the Slough supporters that are left know we aren't a big club anymore but we are well supported for this division and off field we are now getting it right after years of mismanagement.

I've got huge respect for what AFC Hayes have and continue to achieve with no budget and just a small amount of fans. If you check posts from last year after the 0-0 draw at your place, lots of Slough supporters said what a friendly, welcoming club it is. I hope eventually you pick up some more supporters - your cheap beer in the clubhouse certaintly helps!

I was working until 2.30pm on saturday so didn't really have time to get to hayes. I hadn't seen a game for a few weeks because of the weather etc so decided to whip over to Windsor. I know they were playing north leigh who don't have many supporters but where on earth was the crowd!! I got there about 2.50pm and could still quite easily park in the carpark!!

I must admit I did enjoy the game and once again there was a fantastic shot from about 30 yards to open the score. This is something we rarely see at Slough apart from the odd Platt effort. North Leigh missed a penalty and had at least 3 one on ones with the goalkeeper and fluffed all of them, so it could have been 4-4!!

The bit I enjoyed most was when someone in the crowd threw the ball back in and it hit Keith Scott on the head. Classic!!

I just can't believe that we beat windsor 2 weeks ago, and lost to North Leigh 6-1. There has to be some sort of motivational thing missing as we always do better against teams that are near the top.

Reading the reports of the Hayes game I'm flipping glad I didn't go. Something needs to happen and quick otherwise we will be playing chalfont wasps next season.

No wingers? What about Attrell left and and Bubb or Sonny right? Even on the ploughed field yesterday the flanks were reasonably good.

Well Sweetman does clearly not fancy Attrell, or think he's good enough for the task as he's had plenty of chances to pick him. Bubb can play on the wing, but Sweetman's only played him there once against Abingdon in his first game, so does clearly not fancy Bubb as a winger either. Sonny will do a job there, but not what you would call a winger.

Annon there was 18 more at our game than the Slough and both us and you must of been pretty much the only fans at both games!! ( okay AFC Hayes most likely had more than North Leighs zero!) So 150 isnt too bad for a valentines day game!!

I don't understand it, Chris. Bubb is most definitely a winger and I'd be happy to try Attrell on the flank. Sonny is also prepared to take players on so why not him??!

It was very evident on Saturday that they caused us problems by running at our defence particularly in wide positions whereas we had nobody who would go past anyone. Result was we came up against a well organised midfield that we couldn't pass and resorted to hoofing it over the top of them. Bloody frustrating.
