Gentlemen (and any ladies that are interested)it is time to put your name on the line and decide if this 10 hour plus return trip is for you.

So, 24th March, we are aiming to leave between 11.00am and midday from the football club, I need to check how many seats I am legally allowed to drive in a mini bus, but.....I need those names.

Names I am being assured are going are:

Woody

Matt H

Dawson

Gegg

Micky B

Ben

Smithson

Sorry if i missed anyone but get your name down.

Cost wise, it seems like about

Just a thought but instead of the same old faces how about we put a bit in the programme/on the tanoy?

Will i be allowed to bring a sleeping bag on the minibus? As i'm planning on only taking one day off work!

The only reasons I have included the same old faces first is because they have created the possibility of this happening and i know if they say they are coming, they are coming. If I get 15 confirmed bookings by Friday then it is full.

But of course it is open to anyone that wants to come, i am not excluding anyone and new faces would be more than welcome.

This is all dependent on getting the numbers (which I think we will) and then we cann embark on this once in a lifetime odyssey.

Oh and sleeping bags are more than welcome.

We may play again who knows! Anyway as i mentioned in a previous post you need to bare something in mind ref mini-bus travel!

If you are seen to be taking money from passengers then the driver or drivers may be seen as being professional drivers, and therefore will need to have a PCV license.

I think the law is along the lines of "not for hire or reward"...now whilst you will only be covering your costs and the driver(s) not making any cash

Interesting, how exactly did they find out?!?!?!?! Also how do they prove you got money from the passengers?

I will bear that in mind and do as you say if that is the way round it, sounds a bit self defeating and not sure how they could possibly make it stand up in court but I will trust your experience and take the necessary precautions.

I am sure you went through the whole process and got nowhere so if you are at a game before then could we have a chat?

Cheers

hey Neil, Think I'm out of running unfortunately. Been trying to work out my days off this year, sad I know, but will only just have got back from the West Indies, and need to make sure I have enough days left over at the end of the year for South Africa tour, so two days for Truro is not looking possible. I thought would be good, but now South Africa dates and venues are out I'm looking at doing two Tests this side of Christmas rather than fourth test at New Year, thus meaning I need every day possible from this years hols.

Gegg, no worries, just need to confirm a second driver. I reckon we will get the required number as we already have 7 for the trip not including me so a few others will buy in no doubt. And I hope the England team sort themselves out before you go out there, how disappointed would you be if you had seen that first test, jeez you would not be happy!!!!

Perhaps they might read the website to find out - clever people these traffic police!

Geggy, give those 20-20 obsessed sissy boys the finger and save your holiday for more important things like Truro away. If I was out there and saw Ian Bell walking to the crease I would personally run over and shove his bat right up his corridor of uncertainty!

Cricket has gone the same way as football, it

Couldnt have put it better myself,i gave up on cricket for the reasons outlined above.although i should say i still watch real cricket like i watch real football. I like to watch the Eton v Harrow at lords etc.

watch england no thanks, but i suspect that for those that go on tour to watch its as much to do with the holiday as with the cricket, not a criticism but me just trying to understand why.

I guess it's one of those one's that unless your have been on the tours it's a difficult one to explain. Although I agree to an extent with certain individuals, over all there are vast differences between cricket and football. To cite one example, footballers are totally annoymous to their fans at the top level, at the end of each cricket tour, the players go out with the supporters, as a thank you for their support, would you honestly see Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and such like mixing freely with England supporters. There is a mutual respect in cricket and they want to thank supporters. There is now money in the game and I think that's one of the problems in that players are trying to adapt, remember in previous years, players would have to work in the winters to supplement their summer wages if they weren't playing for England, so there is a shift. But although money is there, if you take Freddie Flintoff as an example, he would not let money go to his head, and you would not find another sportsman more committed to playing for his country, in my opinion. Result at the weekend was bad, but that's cricket, we just get on and enjoy the next game.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay everyone, I can't be bothered to do another thread so here goes.

So far I have me and Smithson as drivers, passengers are Micky B; Ian D; Matty H; Woody; Carlos; Ben; Jezz. That's nine of us. My brother is a possible tenth.

This Saturday I am going to go and collect money at football and book the minibus. i will book the minibus that best suits our numbers and should hopefully be the most economical is terms of both hiring and fuel economy. If I book a ten seater and then two more want to come it will be on a first come first serve basis. if there are any arguments I will have the final say as to who comes on and who stays at home, for no other reason than I have organised it, booked it and it takes any argument out of who goes (but i am open to bribes!!!!)

If you can think of anyone I have missed or you know wants to come please let me know by Saturday

I reckon we should still be looking at around

The start was the 18 hour bender we all took to Truro many moons ago, with scary puppets, a day trip to lands end, controversial "frozen pitches" the most beautiful railway journey in all of Britain, a badger getting rough treatment at Windsor station, Ian going mental at two big blokes and it all ended at about 1.30 in the Criterion. Bring on round two, heaven knows what awaits us........
