So where did it go wrong ?

Whilst i could'nt care less if we are outplayed for 90 minutes and get the luckist goal in every game ;as i simply want to be winners; a consistent theme of all reports seems to be that for the first half we were outplayed and should have been beaten out of sight by then.

About time that Margate had the roll of the dice-and i think on balance over the season we are still due some more good fortune;so long may it continue.

I'd take 'lucky' wins all season long.None of this played well but still lost stuff;and rubbish spin about taking the positives

That given, if you were TY, what would you be working on in training this week to ensure Margate are not on another day, apparently 'ripped open' as i read we were for the first half;and thus at hastings, we play well for all 96 minutes and get the all important win ?

I'm sure TY with his `experience will realise that there seems alot of work still to do-but its always easier to work on the improvements needed when you are on a high;so TY and NS should be having a really good training week for the guys.

I wouldn't say we were outplayed in the 1st half Michael. They just had the better chances to score that's all. (clear cut chances,one-on-one) Maybe 4 or 5.

We had our chances too but as has been seen of late a failure to convert (poor efforts) was our downfall again in that half.

Some poor defending to allow them their chances too.I would say apart from those chances of theirs the 1st half was pretty even really. We certainly started well & were pushing their defence back for the 1st 15 minutes or so.

2nd half the lads tightened up defence & worked harder to get any back any ball that that they may have they lost & generally were hungry to win the game. Once in front our defense were very hard to break down indeed with some super individual & team-like efforts.

Well Geoff Pay said we were hammered in the first half, I wouldn't put it quite like that, possession wise they had an edge, but there was a lot of 'end-to-end' stuff. Pat Mullin had to make a few important saves, but their strikers also showed some wild finishing & were guilty of failing to take full use of any advantage they had. In turn we were spending a lot of time getting the ball into the penalty area, but we were guilty of failing to get the testing shots in.

In the second half Wayne scored with an unstoppable shot from quite a distance out of their area (look at Don's picture (48mins) to see he's outside the 'D' & already running goalbound to celebrate). Then we sustained a bit of pressure, and as I didn't think we'd get a second there were quite a few anxious moments when T&M got into our penalty area, but in truth the T&M strikers never looked like scoring ... more wild shooting I'm afraid. On another day with 'goal-finding' strikers we could have witnessed a goal-fest - thankfully only Wayne & Ryan packed their 'goalscoring boots'.

The difference between the two teams was that we managed to convert two chances, whereas T&M didn't convert any. As you say Michael if we can continue to do that we'll be safe this season.

To answer your question [color:#FF0000] If you were TY, what would you be working on in training this week to ensure Margate are not on another day, apparently 'ripped open' as i read we were for the first half Personally I'd save money on two defenders (not Young or Harwood) and bring in some sheets of 8'x 4' blockboard & board up the goal behind Pat. This would exploit the Local theme of the Club as it'd make our goal-front look like the High Street & seafront shops. smile

Why is there someone (MM) being so negative about a game he obviously did not see? Gate deserved the win two great goals and keeper kept us in the game when he had too, thats what he is there for!! Second half gate were by far the better team, lets celebrate the win not look at negatives all of he time.

Your right GT,for Gods sake we WON,the boys played a very good game,as for outplayed in the first half..I dont think so,every team has its chance to score,we did, they did not end of story,we are a good side and play good football, all we are lacking IMO is a defender and a forward, anyones name come to mind,I can think of two.

Michael we were certainly not outplayed.

Our lads took them game to them which always leaves a team open to counter attacks. Yes our keeper had to pull off saves in the 1st half but we outplayed them in every area of the pitch. We were by far the better team and looked not just good but very good.

Inorder to gain the points we require for safety this is the play we must adopt and TY has got the lads playing it very well. Very good to watch from a supporters view. Using the full width of the pitch and having a real go.

I loved the way we played and long may it continue.

Great afternoon out and good to see some of the lads I've followed for years playing at Hartsdown for the 1st team.

Sorry Michael, you are completely wrong on your assumption, we played well in first half but as Cookie said they also had chances but failed to convert thanks mainly to Pat and some woeful finishing. Second half I don't think Pat had a save to make but was still shouting instructions all the time to his defence. Another reason I picked him for my MOTM.

I can't recall Mullins having to make a save in the second half either.(although it's possible he did). The defence fought for everything in that 2nd half & the keeper was protected much better than in the 1st half & the errors that gave Tooting their earlier chances weren't repeated in the 2nd half either.

He didn't Tony, you are right. I stayed up Hartsdown end second half along with Andy Payne and others, having some good banter with Pat and the Tooting fans. Andy told Pat to smile at one time as we were winning, he turned round and said, with a grin, I will once that whistle goes and we have won, a classic comment!

Must point out that praise goes quite rightly to Liam and Dan but young Luke had a tremendous second half, making their number 10 look silly at times.

I was waiting for you to come in on this one Joseba. Yes, you are right. Being supersticious as I am I said "Dont goad him as he is likely to come back & stick one in the net". Fortunately for us Luke didn't allow that to happen. Sorry, should have let you carry on! biglaugh
