IF THE PLAYER READ THIS

Some people just are never happy are they? The players DID come over and applaud the fans... what more do some want!? I'm the first to criticise the players if they don't appreciate the fans' efforts (see the Tonbridge thread last week), so I will also be the first to applaud the players when they DO appreciate us.

After both goals, players came over and celebrated directly in front of us and I even saw players looking at us and smiling or laughing when they heard some of our songs. Add to that the fact that they DID come over and celebrate with us after the final whistle, and I'd say you've got a pretty strong bond between the players and the hardcore fans.

Well put Mike. And a mention to Gregs for coming over at the end to be congratulated by some of the fans. All the team came right over to the fans at the end and were given well deserved applause and praise for their efforts.

Interesting thread though, and some interesting points.. it's good to see the return of player songs over the past two weeks..coming as a result of a drunken trip to Tonbridge! Remember the old days when we had a settled team and were flying up the leagues. Every player had their own song, and during the couple of minutes prior to kick off each of them would applaud the fans as their song was sung. Hopefully we can see a return to this in the very near future.

Great to hear support from the side of the pitch yesterday.. think it was towards the end when Wheatley made a crucial interception and this was greeted with a roar and encouragement.

Thank goodness for that, I was at Hartsdown end and was convinced the team had gone towards the fans to applaud. I am getting on a bit but my eyes do still work then! wink

This thread,I think, was relating to other parts of the ground rather than just the coffin end on Saturday AFTER the final whistle.

I don't think anyone has said they didn't approach the choir end but there are others strewn around the ground that would also like to show their appreciation too. It's not a jealousy thing its just others like myself wanting to say thank you too from elsewhere in the ground other than the choir end. (Or do we have to sprint down to that end to do that?)

For me its not about the team appreciating us so much(though of course that's nice)its more about us giving them a boost & a thank you & showing OUR appreciation on good days like Saturday. Lord knows most of us ignore them enough & slink off on bad days don't we?

Maybe a quick jog round the three sides by the players would be the answer & would satisfy everyone on glorious days like Saturday.

As far as I can see this thread was intended as a "positive" thread & not as some would like to make out a "negative" one.

Well at my end Tony (Hartsdown) some of the team did turn around to clap our end so sorry I must be missing the point of it. The choir etc wait until the end to applaud the team so it is obvious the team will go to where most people are. As far as I see every game others are making their way to the gates even before game has finished.

Again I'm not denying that some applauded us from the half-way line but you're still missing the point. Most do start to walk out at the Hartsdown end but are anticipating the players coming forward more & they are ready to stop & give MORE applause if that were to happen. All this is just about us ALL wanting to say thank you.

After all that's been said its not such a big deal for us as it should before the players, for them to soak up every drop of thanks when its deserved & when its being offered.

I'm saying no more on the subject.

Easiest way is to do what I (and I hope others) have done and write to the IOTG to thank Margate FC for a great day's football. That way the players, management etc will see our thanks as long as the IOTG notes it. It might also, as I have said before encourage fringe supporters back.

Obviously we have to accept the fact that all letters will not get published but at least if people do it in sufficient numbers we cannot be totally ingored.
