IF THE PLAYER READ THIS

fellas u will find that the bulk of the supporters at this club are die hard ( they need to be ) they will critisise when they think u arent pulling ur weight and will (unfortunately) boo sometimes, their thoughts, needs and hearts will probably always stay with the Mighty Blues which ever way the result turns out, but in times gone by the players even in our heady Conference days acknowleged the supporters with maybe a humble applause/respect - this I feel needs to be addressed soon ,as the support can/should be the 13th man but even the die hards may feel the lack of Player/Supporter connection may be a bridge too far to connect - cmon guys we will applaud u ( especially when u win ) but more importantly we will be there when u lose!!! so ultimately what Im saying is get back to the old days and maybe we might just build a better team together. rant over

I agree Andy. That was noticeable after the game.

It would help relations if they were to come over & collect the applause at closer range. I for one was expecting them to come over but they never did.

I'm sure that on days like this it would be a mighty inspiration to the players to see how appreciative we are of the good days as opposed to those really quick exits on bad days.

I'd also like to see the "huddle" on the pitch again immediately before kick off as that also shows unity amongst the players.

I was celebrating myself too much to notice but I'm sure he & they were excited by it.I don't doubt their elation in scoring & winning a match

Its the "after the final whistle" that I am talking of & I suspect that's what Dannyriding was talking of too.

They would approach supporters away from home after a victory,or even in defeat, for journeying to watch them play, so it would be nice to see it acknowledged at our place after a fine win. They should be milking it seeing as though it dosen't come all that often these days.

I think however, with the way that they are playing at the moment & if they want it,they might have to get used to after match applause at closer range.

I'm sure all this that I am talking off isn't deliberately intended but a thought for us in the same way that our thoughts & appreciation are for them wouldn't do anything but good for morale & be a major boost in a players mind.

In the defence of the players, celebrating a goal too much can lead to a card..we dont want to see that,IMO that rule sucks,we all want to celebrate..with the players and with the fans, after all thats what the paying public pay for..to see goals,it would be nice though to see the players at the end of the game to warm down, like they did in the CK years to take the applause of there fans one by one.

To be honest, Cookie, I think that the huddle on the pitch is just about as pointless as the handshaking before the game. The bonding or whatever we might call it is done on training days and in the dressing room before the game in my opinion.

"A bridge too far to connect " whats that all about, i dont know about fellow supporters but i feel for everyone of those players on that pitch.

We have just had one of the best days of our season and here we go as if a good win is not enough they have got to come and give us a big hug......come on!

Whilst I agree, it would be great for the players to "share the joy" with the fans after a home victory, I can perhaps understand their hesitation given the lack of "shared sympathy" by we, the home supporters, when results haven't gone our way - it's not that long ago that home games have ended to a ring of boos. We need to keep getting behind the players - win or loose - and the bond will grow through mutual respect of the 11 men on the pitch and the collective 12th man. Perhaps what's more important for Margate FC is the bond between the players on the pitch, as stated in the post-match interviews and as we can see on the pitch they're clearly playing much more for each other and as a team. Incidentally have you noticed how the "celebratory heap" after an important late goal is growing from Ashford to T & M? Great team bonding!

While I'm about it, I thought I'd throw in this picture of Wayne that I've been playing with as he turned and ran towards the crowd after his great first goal yesterday.

Great picturs and come on guys a great win well deserved and the crowd played an important part in the victory, I cetainly saw most players raising their hand to clap supporters at the end what else do you want !! cant believe some are criticising them on such a good day for us

just a footnote to my previous post, I wasnt complaining or demanding that the players share in goal celebrations with fans, the point I was making was that the team seem distant to fans after the final whistle. As I said earlier the heady days of the Conference are gone but even then they came to the crowd to acknowledge their support, and even bonded in the bar afterwards. I know 50% of the players have long journeys after the game, and perhaps dont want to share the euphoria of their win with half cut fans in the bar, but most if not all of us are boosted by a Slap on the back and a "Well Done" from the people we are trying to impress/entertain!

I see what you mean Andy. I think maybe the players haven't had enough practice of winning games at home to know what to do! So many home games have finished with the majority of the crowd heading disconsolately and rapidly to the exits! Picking up on some comments from them after they certainly enjoyed the experience of winning in front of the home crowd. I'm sure if they keep winning it will come - let's face it, everything gets so much better when you're winning!

I'm sorry but that's not what is all about. Give us a big hug indeed. Who asked for that?
Isn't if funny how some people exaggerate things.
I am merely merely trying to say it would be good for the players to come over to us & take a well deserved applause.
Like Dannyriding says its not a complaint as such but rather an observation & request & no more than that. Its meant as a positive not a negative, both for the supporter & for the players.
Yesterday we had supporters at both ends come the final whistle so maybe with hindsight it was understandable yesterday that they remain in the centre circle to accept the applause but I like many, unlike days when we slink out of the ground for a poor performance, would like to have stayed behind on this occasion to show them my/our appreciation for a performance that was deserving of an ovation.
This subject was brought up so I personally am just giving my thoughts on that subject whether it be a pennies worth or as some might say, a pounds worth. laugh
As for the huddle Gary I know its not to some peoples liking but I can't see how you can compare a huddle amongst ones own players to that of handshakes with opponents.
Handshakes with opponents dosen't mean a thing to me & I'm with you on that, but publicly getting together for half-a-minute immediately without before kick-off,to me,does. It's more about what they say in that 30 seconds rather than the huddle itself.
Anyway, with or without acknowledgement yesterdays result & efforts have been noted by those making an effort to turn up & to see then triumph & triumph well!

My point was simply regarding the handshakes and the huddle before the match. I have always thought that they were pointless and always will but that is not a criticism of the players.

I thought that the team was great yesterday and my post under "Let's all write to the local paper" hopefully set out my feelings.

I hope that others will join me in doing so - we get good support anyway but there must be loads of people out there who with just a little nudge (or big shove dependent upon how many people take up the cudgel) might turn up. Whether the local paper prints any letters or not is something over which we have no control.

After all, when did Margate last have a Manager who has played and managed at the highest level and an assistant who has been one of our greatest goalkeepers in charge?

I will be forwarding something too Gary but I look forward to your comments & you are quite right, people out there need to know that this set of players are at last beginning to show some good form & are giving us some good entertainment. It won't be like that every week I'm sure but as of late it seems to have been consistent.

I think the layout of our ground doesnt help in truth. They head back to the changing rooms after the game which is where no supporters are. A tunnel to go down in the middle of a stand or at the corner of the pitch surrounded by fans and you would see much more bonding at the end of games. Great performance yesterday, the defence are looking superb and is one element we must not change.

Was I going blind yesterday because I thought a lot of the team stood on the pitch to applause the fans down at coffin end and indeed some turned to applaud others at hartsdown end. Pat even went the full length of the pitch to punch the air and applaud the fans.

He must have gone to the opposite end to where I was then Alan. Good on him.

Them applauding from the half-way line isn't in doubt.

Why is this thread all elongated?. Who cocked it up to start with? Can it be reversed?
