Album of the Day:

 

I believe that Carter USM were one of the most underrated bands in the 1990s. Smart lyrics combined with catchy, crunchy pop meant that once inside your head, it was damn tricky to get them out again. 30 Something was one of those albums where everything just fell into place.

 

The sound was right, the lyrics were easy on the ear but actually dug a little deeper than you might have expected – check out the how the band tackles the issue of racism in the armed forces in Bloodsports For All for example.

 

This was a definite move on from debut album 101 Damnations, the formula stayed the same but the brains behind it all began to shine through. Billy’s Smart Circus simply soars, while Anytime Anyplace Anywhere is like a punk Pet Shop Boys singing the joys of alcohol.

 

Sandwiched between the notable debut of 101 Damnations and the brilliant 1992: The Love Album, 30 Something is a gem. Get it out and give it a polish!
