Official Site Update - 4th Feb - Ground Update

Jayne Bradbury, Sports Solutions GB (SSGB) and the Club are the 3 main parties I believe. Unless this has changed. Also involved are the Supporters Trust, the West Wing in some form as they want to relocate there along with Slough Boxing Club.

Its a shame the project is moving along at quite a slow pace all be it not helped by the change in Council which delayed things a bit. Looking back at the documents released by Slough council exactly a year ago at their "Former Arbour Vale School Site: Future Use and Disposal" meeting if all things had gone smoothly we could have been submitting planning permission this month.

Still positive progress is great.

Couple of points:

The update says that the plans 'now include a mixed residential and stadium development'

I thought the plans always did include a housing development as well as a stadium?

The stadium update also mentions that the 'current economic climate has had an impact on the development'

Would it be possible to know some more details of what the impact of the economic climate on the stadium development has been?

Original proposal included a hotel which the council were always twitchy about, so not surprised this has gone.

The economic climate has to do with it being harder to raise cash and house prices going down, so less profit.

not surprising really the council has been dragging it's heels for the last 4+ years probably thinking that it might make a bit of a killing with the price of land etc but the latest global economic crisis has left them with a broken leg so they will be slower trying to play for time to see if things are going to pick up soon so they can demand more money, hard to do that if all the competition is broke . well thats my thoughts on the present situation just hope the club and consortium can out last the council.

Where does it say the Hotel has gone?

I thought the hotel was going to fund the stadium?

Yet even more changes to the plans required!

Is this down to the council continually moving the goal posts, or the consortium not listening to what the planners require?

Its about time both sides pulled their fingers out and got this resolved as this is turning out to be a complete farce.

As for planning there are clear national guidelines laid down which cover issues such as green belt land - the issue is how the council are interpratating them and dragging their heels, and if the consortium has reffered to them and are they pushing their luck with trying to get more than they are entitled.

Local politics has a council who claim to be fully behind the scheme, yet are more intrested in slagging off their political opponents than providing the community with a long term asset.

And as for economics the only ones winning at the momment are the architects and the solicitors with their fees. If the project had been given the green light 6 months ago the building costs of the stadium would be lower due to the surplus of contractors as a result of the slump in house building.

The big losers in this are the football club and the community of Slough.

"BCIS Construction Briefing - January 2009

Index figures and the full commentary are available through BCIS Online or in Indices and Forecasts.

Tender prices fell by 0.8% in 3rd quarter 2008 compared with the previous quarter and by 1.2% compared with a year earlier. "

Actually construction tender prices are falling, so it would have been more expensive 6 months ago.

Since the club seems to be OK with what is happening, why not accept that?

If at some future stage management say take to beating the drums outside the Town Hall again, I do hope you will be there, rather than posting b*ll*cks with your keyboard.
