Just wondered what everyone's view on this juggernaut of a player was. i have heard conflicting views, but personally I think he looks like a good player. Clever feet and doesn't panic, thinks about what to do with the ball and doesn't faff about. Seemed a bit out of position at left back but in the centre I would feel confident with him.

Although how much could he intimidate a young keeper at a corner, would anyone you know get in his way if he came steaming in on them?

I was really pleased when i found out we had signed him, long serving uxbridge player, old fasioned massive defender who as you say does think about where hes putting the ball. When he settles in properly i think he will be improve and should be in the starting eleven. I certainly would rather be on his side than against him.

I agree, he's more suited to a centre-back position. I did notice that after coming right up for a corner, he was well outdistanced by a few players (from both sides) when Totton ran through a fast counter, so he probably hasn't got the speed for #2 or #3 at the moment: plus I wouldn't lose either of our first-choices there anyway!

In the centre he would have attackers running onto him, rather than maybe having to chase them, and his size and ball placing would be real assets.

I'm convinced they wouldn't have got their goal if Ryan had still been on the pitch yestreday. More often than not [and I've never seen it done by a full-back] he's actually playing a sweeper role when the defence has pushed up and it was that lack of pace that allowed them to score when the 10 went past Butler as if he wasn't there!

As for Mark Weedon [note the spelling for the programme please Michael/Dan], I don't think he's got the pace to be a full-back and Scotty did eventually move him into the centre with Butler pushing into midfield. When he played in the midddle for the second-half against Slough I thought he looked solid though and as Scotty has said before he won't just bring players in to fill places they have to be the right players and Weedon showed he's capable of some decent distribution to go along with his defensive skills.

If you picked a starting 11 from any group of players that have played in our last four or five games you would have to say it would be pretty strong, very few weak links in the squad and a flexible group of players allows us to perform with key players out. We will be without Seedel and Coyne for two games, and possibly Ryan if his injuries are severe so a test for the squad to show what we have. Tuesday will not be a walk over and neither will Saturday so we will see if we can get six points and show our strength in depth. Weedon gives us superb options at the back, my only feeling is that Ben & Chen have been our most dangerous partnership up front and Chen looks a little bit lost without him. I am not questioning the Colonel (esp not after Saturday) but Chens just seemed happier with Ben, only my opinion though.

Agreed. Chenns can either play provider or stay central, and we all know that staying central is how he gets the goals - but he has to have someone to play him in and help split the defence, especially when he's always got two markers as he has in the last few games. He doesn't play well in a 4-5-1, so we want someone up front with him: and he's such an unselfish player, so it needs to be with someone who will keep him as our threat #1 or else who's better in front of goal (hmm, don't see many of them...) or .

I personally thought we did fine with Seeds up front with Chenns, Willo in mid-field and Ben on the right wing (Joe on the left as now). Seeds could and obviously did score plenty as well, no way could a defence ignore him; but he was also brilliant at staying further forward as our target man, holding the ball and then flicking it on for Chenns to run through. Ben had the speed on the wing, and could also bring the ball in given any chance.

However (suspensions aside) if we want to keep Seeds in midfield, along with Willo and Coyney, then I think Ben should play as an out-and-out forward. Maybe it's Wallo's playing style but even when he plays well, he doesn't seem to play Chenns in, so we still waste the best striker we've had in years... Bruce also looked promising up front but maybe that pairing needed a bit longer to gel.

I am glad i am not the only one who thinks this, but we have to concede that 18 unbeaten, beating the team top of the league and beingn 2 points off the top and two games in hand, that maybe Scotty does know what he is doing LOL!!!

Seeds has been a revelation in midfield and i would play Ben & Chen up front, Coyne and Seeds in the middle with Willo and Joe on the wings, Wilson would be left out only on the basis that Joe is performing well and you can't drop him, although what a great reserve to have and at the beginning of the season would probably have started.

As for teh back four, pretty much picks itself and has great cover, this must be our greatest chance for a title, the next five or six games are soooo important.
