Truro vs Slough - Live Updates

What a mission. I got up at 4.30am Saturday morning and got home this morning at 2.30am. In between my tube broke down and then the coach. It was only some impressive mechanics and driving from Anil that got us to the game at 2.57!

Good Slough turn-out - 50+ in freezing conditions. We played well the first half but so did Truro who really impressived me with their football - but then the figures i heard banded around by their supporters about their wage bill, well they should play well! It's only at the back that they look a bit shaky. It was a bit more backs against the wall in the second half but on the whole we stuck to a passing game, but didn't really trouble their keeper.

Majority of Truro fans were fine, apart from a small group of middle-aged cockney skin-heads, who apparently were in some 'Life On Mars' time-warp and didn't realise that thankfully the world has moved on from 70's football stupidity. Their chant' No one likes us' was laughable. Im sorry, but we are both 8 leagues below the Premiership. No one's heard of us!

If it is racism then what are you going to charge them with ?

saying they prefer a castle to a mosque is quite trivial when you consider the real racism in the world, christian killing muslim, muslim killing christian etc etc you can go on with as many variations as you want.
In football you will hear thngs you dont like whether all of them are racist or not is debateable, sometimes windsor fans have been known to chant 'they're going to build a mosque at wexham park' etc a lot of it is just taunting and banter, nothing really nasty.
Better that slough fans look at themselves, i overhead two slough fans say racist things about the sikh school in slough and sikhs in particular and also heard a man who was discussing his work with the council remark that there are too many asians on the council.
This is the real racism that has to be tackled and it is the hidden sort.
I only bring this up in response to what someone said went on in truro and your observation of windsor fans.
Medina daires do have ongoing applications i believe to use the dairy as an islamic centre and a lot of people oppose it including some muslims (not me) but whether it is realised or not i dont know.
the owner recently died (a really nice chap he was) so i would imagine they have more on their mind at the moement.

Any chance we can keep this thread on topic?

Truro played extremely good football - one move in the first half was sublime - one touch quick passing and good movemment. But we held our own and played quite well leaving them at times looking shaky at the back. When we scored we were on top and deserved the lead.

We didn't really capitalise and didn't come close to scoring a second.

The second half they dominated - we seemingly found it harder to play with a strong wind. Truro deservedly won.

Luke, played at 4, and missed an interception for the winner, but had been excellent particularly in the first half. It should be noted that we kept Yetton (an absolute goal machine) very quiet.

The majority of Truro fans were nice and friendly. Shame a couple of idiots had to spoil it.

I don't think were in a relegation battle just yet, but we are very close to it. As you saw from last season about this time in the season teams at the bottom somehow consistantly put a run of points together (Bracknell, Andover last season), which is pretty much what started to happen today.

We've now got a run of winnable games I believe, but last time we had this we struggled to put together any wins or performances in these types of games. We have got to put in the same effort and attitude that we put in against Windsor evety game. Were the type of team that can't play OK and pick-up 3-points. We have to scrap and play with tempo in every game, if we turn-up with the attitiude we did against Marlow were in trouble.

Bracknell stayed up with 35 points last year, so I recon we need another 10 to make sure (37). On paper with the team we have we should do this with no problem, but football's not played on paper as we can see from our extremely disappointing league position at this moment in time.

Also would also still like to see us bring in a couple more players, our bench options are not great at the moment.

That would be a quality chant.
'No one knows us, We don't care'.
Especially for a team as isolated as Truro...

Bad luck with the result at Truo fellas! It's a shame as you did have the lead for quite some time!

Could anyone confirm if Mr. Clements enjoyed his day out at Stag Meadow? Yes that is right Slough fans he was behind the goal with the Windsor fans watching the top of the table clash!

Can't really blame him, for a neuteral it must have been great to watch!

Derek Sweetman has had a poor record if you look back over this season:

August wins - none

September wins - Taunton, Cirencester, Andover

October wins - none

November wins - Winchester

December wins - Paulton

January wins - W&E

6 wins out of 25 games or 1 a month.

The cup side of it is no better with only 1 win.

It is about time he went.

It was a good game - in the first half I thought it was an even contest between two teams who were playing good football. We went ahead but were a bit unlucky not to create a couple more good chances when in good positions. Truro had a couple of half-chances themselves but we could have gone in with a bigger half-time lead given a bit of luck.

Overall though Truro played the better football, using the whole width of the pitch to their advantage, which isn't surprising given the experience they have in their squad. They were much better in the second half which they dominated. Their number 10 Andy Watkins gave our defence the runaround all game, and took one of his chances when Evans slipped and let him through on goal. Yet again though, we conceded a header from a set-piece situation (just after half-time too), which is disappointing.

We need to have a good February now - personally I think we should be looking to get at least 4 wins this month.

Think it will go down to the wire yet again this season 6 wins out of 25 games is very very poor looking at the side we have, hopefully we can celebrate staying up at Didcot but somehow doubt it. We are simply not a good side and the league table does not lie.

I think thats a slight over reaction. We are currently 8 points off the relegation zone, we are picking up points more often than not (hence the average of just over a point a game), we just need to be more clinical when we take the lead, and when we are at a draw. We may have lost 10 games out of 25, but that means 15 games where teams have failed to beat us!! At least some of us like to be positive.

I thought we played quite well in some very bad conditions. The keepers could not reach the half way line in one direction, and the length of the pitch in the other, it was so windy.

Truro sat off of us in the first half, with Yash using the space very well. We scored once, but could have gone in 3-0 up.

We gave away two early goals in the second half, and seemed to find having the wind behind us very hard to play in, as we did what Truro did by not closing down. This gave their quick strikers more chances.

I spoke to a lot of Truro officials and supporters and they were very impressed with the way we played, and with the number of supporters we took. They were suprised that around 200 or so home fans didn't turn up.

Over all, we could have got more out of the game, but Truro had to bring on ex-professionals to gain the initiative.

There were positives to come out of the game, as well as negatives.

you are obviously talking about that turncoat younger brother of mine who only has paper loyalties you have to remember hovis that there is more than one mr clements and this one would not stand at any end of the ground because i want a balanced veiw of the game and the only place to see thatis at the half way line, as for a top of the the table clash it may have been but one of quality i'll reserve my judgement on that.

Quality it certainly was. I was surprised to see a number of

slough fans,i suppose they came to see a football match as truro

is a long way to go although they do seem to be quite regular.
