Soup on Draft... O/T

Recommended Posts

Our Bar supplier has given us notice to expect a significant price increase on certain draft beers over the coming weeks, upto to 15% on one of them

So after a session of brainstorming last night by the Thursday night crew, and aided by a bit of inside information from Mr Pringle (wink wink) I have come up with a cunning plan.

Soup - not any old soup, but it will be soup nevertheless.

What I propose is: a light, a dark and a medium colour soup served chilled and dispensed from the pumps. Forget your Oxtail and tomato, our bee soup will be in Stout, bitter, and larger flavour.

I think it will be a winner...and oh yeah, itll be 4.5% proof as well.

Best of all, soup is definitely a food, and it's good for you.

I hate to rain on your parade and cunning plan TC but.....

Although the supply of most food and drink of a kind used for human consumption is zero-rated, there are exceptions. Some items are always standard rated and these are explained in Notice 701/14 Food. Other supplies are standard rated because they are in the course of catering.

Is it within the ordinary meaning of catering?
Is it for on-premises consumption?
Is it hot take-away food?

If the answer is

I would also like to advise you TC that your proposal may require planning permission. Under the terms of the Town & Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 2005 Amendment, your premises are designated within Use Class D2 (Assembly & Leisure). A change of use to a restaurant, or hot food take away would fall respectively into Use Class A3 or A5 and would need t6o be properly assessed in the context of the local development plan policy for such activities.

I suggest you appoint tax and planning consultants immedaitely

You could always "rent" the beer out, rather than sell it; to be returned a short time later. I've always suspected that's where Strongbow comes from anyway...
