Canvey v Southend

Not too bothered by score but hopefully we'll put in a good performance and there will be a decent crowd.

Dissapointing crowd tonight but thought we played very well. Well taken goals by Jay and Lucky and thought Stuart Ainsley had an impressive game.

Started the match in central midfield and ended up playing at left back in the second half but rarely gave the ball away and won several tackles. Good pass for Lucky's goal as well.

Good to see youngsters Ricky Allen and Ben Britnell get a run out as well.

"Attendance of 180 - excellent and well done to all the Shrimpers who did not go tonight and thereby didn't put money into Canvey Island. Proud of you all."

Seems like Southend have some nice things to say about us...

It's those sorts of comments that give me every reason to hate Southend.

They talk about our fans being idiots and obnoxious, they should take a long hard look at themselves.

Southend Utd isn't exactly a lucrative fixture in itself, especially after being cained by Leeds Utd the night before.

They probably didn't want to suffer the humiliation of possibly being beaten twice in 48 hrs, friendly or not.

I'm not surprised the attendance was as low as it was.

Good game tonight and a big thanks to Steve Tilson for bringing a side down especially with Southend struggling at the moment.

Although Southend didn't bring many at all i was very dissapointed with our own support, alot of regulars missing last night..

Last night was about raising funds and its key that all supporters do all they can to support the club.

unfortunately so many factors were against you last night

Southend playing night before

West Ham on the box

[****!!****] weather

And money tight for everyone, they will want to spend on a real game like this saturdays !

Some good points from both Glen and Diddy.

All clubs have their minority. I know alot of Southend fans and they're generally decent people who want to see us progress and do well. Unfortunately the minority really irritate and anger me.

Agree with you there Diddy. I think some of the comments on Shrimperzone are probably valid. We did have a few glory boys who gave it 'large' when we were playing well and having our games against Southend but those people have gone.

It's a different club now and the arrogance has gone. If they actually came down to our place now, they would find it is completely different and much friendlier and less insular.

I hope you noted on that Southend thread I stood up for you guys and belittled the two d1ckheads who perpetuated their misguided views of Canvey (one of whom, I might add, is a well known tubby cokehead).

All things considered it wasn't the best time to play a friendly. P1ssing with rain, Hammers on the box, Southend slumping and having just played the night before, with a recession meaning everyone has to look how they spend their money.

A good evening, though, and as I'm sure you'll know the Souithend (and Basildon United) supporters that turned up wish you nothing but an upturn in your financial fortunes. I'd wish you luck on the field but judging by the last 3 seasons you don't need much. wink

But no Gull ever believes anything coming from Thames Road so I had to reiterate it.

At least last week's game went ahead, too, in spite of the conitions, and not called off 20 minutes before kick-off. Not even a professional club could be that unprofessional could it?
