Billericay V Waltham Abbey Results

Recommended Posts

Not the most convincing of performances to put it mildly, but we're through thanks to a brief cameo from Billy. 20 goals from 24+3 appearances is an exceptional return and testament to the work he has put in to his game over the past 12 months.

Other than Billy, I thought Leon and Dorms did OK in centre mid, but again we've made some silly mistakes at the back and going forward our final ball was poor far too often.

A game that really summed us up. After 80 minutes we were all ready to go home in a bad mood BUT we have shown at times that we fight to the end and there was no lack of effort.

Billy showed that he is probably the only player that we have with true quality - only 3 chances in the 15 minutes or so he was on and converted 2 very well indeed.

Unlike Simon I wasn't so convinced about central midfield, it seems to me that is an area where we are badly lacking a quality player who can put his foot on the ball, slow the game down a bit and get some telling passes in. All to often we are playing at 100 miles an hour hoofing the ball forward, bypassing midfield and hoping our forwards or wingers can get onto a long ball. Not very pretty to watch either.

Having said that it is good to progress in a cup competition and the match against Hornchurch should be an interesting one.

Well a win is a win, but not much else (imo) can be taken from last night. Defensively (again)we always look likely to hit a suicide button. No disrespect to Waltham A but they were there for the taking and we did not do that. What would we do without Billy. Their tiny no.2 kept everything at bay. Thought Leon worked tirelessly though, as did the team but it was all very much huff n puff (imo).

Anyway into next round and how many teams have struggled in rounds only to go and go a long way. Lets hope that it is us smile

One observation and just a (maybe) help to the management. Ball rotation. There were a number of times when we had the ascendancy and (eg) got a corner. If the ball had gone out of the ground it then "klls" the moment of quick attack which allows the other team to regroup quickly whilst waiting for a ball to be taken from the bag. I wonder if we placed balls down the side by the hoardings could potentially speed attacks up. Yes, it would be the same for the opposing team, but sometimes if we dont try new things then we will never know.

Anyway, well done to the team for not giving up.

If you are correct Sider, then I have to give credit to the Waltham Abbey team, but say that our performance was poor last night, especially when we put a first team out.

In the first half, we had chances, be it half chances or good chances, but we wasn't taking them, and we also had most of the posession. An excellent goal by BWG, but a defensive error that led to the penalty.

Second half I think Abbey had more posession then they did in the first half. The defending from Abbey was good, especially in the second half. Then we got caught on the break and thankfully the ref gave the foul on Ronnie. (Was it a foul? Couldnt quite see it from where I was) But that wasn't enough to tell us that they go well on the break, and then the second time they scored from it, a well taken goal by them.

Billy made a difference when he came on, we looked better going forward, and he scored the 2 goals which won the game. However, we shouldn't have to rely on Billy to get the goals.

We were getting passes wrong the should have been easy balls. We definately need to stop these defensive errors.

I thought our midfield looked good, but our defence looked a bit nervy.

Any news on Lynvall? Was he brought off because of injury? If so how bad is it?

Yes 16 year old keeper who played in the FA Youth Cup match, five reserves/U18 including sub who came on and off. I think you could have buried us in first half but second a couple of decisions our way and it could have been different. We actually tried to play a bit and Gayle up front was superb. You kept pumping long balls which were reasonably well dealt with until ex Abbey player Bricknell was introduced, oh well....Good Luck next round. For me the night was tinged with sadness as Jim was not there. Thanks Town Crier for looking after us yet again, next time I'll put me tie on....promise..DH

Fair play to the Wabbey kids who were 2 minutes away from beating a full first team Billericay side. Thought their number 2 was decent, Wareham never beat him all night. As for us, too much hoof, no composure and the muted silence that greeted Bricknell's goals about said it all. I hope to see a more motivated side at Sutton on Saturday.

I would like to say a big thank you to Mick (and helpers) whose hard work got the game played. He must have been crying into his beer looking at the state of it afterwards.

As for the match, well the positives were Billy's goals and the fact that we won. We seem to have a few players who have their own agenda at the moment. That's a shame. Hopefully we can improve on this on Saturday.

Come on you Blues!!

Wabbey No 2 was their best player, but I feel that you are being a bit harsh on Wareham. I seem to remember he put in a number of crosses into the box, particularly in the first half, but there was no one willing to attack that final ball, and wasn't it his cross from which Billy scored his first goal?

With the quality players we have we should be beating teams like this off the park but we're not. IMO we're not working as a team, we look uncomfortable on the ball and panic when defending, there is little communication or rapport between players on the field and and until these issues are addressed our season will continue to flounder.

I was more extolling the virtues of Wabbey's No.2 than any slight on Wareham.
