Didcot Walk details

The official route for the walk to Didcot has now been decided upon.

It will be a two day walk, with an option of only walking on the Saturday, for those who can't do both.

The details are as follows :

Day 1 20 miles

Friday (start time to be decided)

Start at Wexham Park

Walk to Reading Station

Day 1 map

Get train back to Slough

Day 2 19 miles

(1 day walkers can join the rest of us)

Train to Reading (Times to be decided)

Walk to Didcot FC

Day 2 map

A book will be kept in the Trust cabin during home matches to register for the walk. When registering, please state if you are walking for 1 or 2 days.

If you can't make it to home games but still want to walk, you can contact me on the email address on my website.

Traveling by train between the two day's walk is cheaper than staying in a hotel, and allows people who only want to walk on the Saturday to join in.

For those walking on the Friday, it has been decided that we will be meeting up at Wexham Park for a 10am start.

For all walkers, I am putting packs together (one for day 1, and one for day 2), which you can pick up at home games in the Trust Hut. They contain train details, and maps of the route.

I should have some day 1 packs with me at Winchester, if you want one then.

Details of train times for Saturday morning.

In order to reach Didcot in time for the match we need to start walking from Reading station by 8am at the latest.

The train we have decided upon is the 07:13 from Slough.

For those who live nearer local stations, this train calls at

07:17 - Burnham

07:21 - Taplow

07:25 - Maidenhead

07:33 - Twyford

07:43 - Reading

Once at Reading, the meeting place will be the main entrance.

For those buying tickets, please obtain a receipt and pass this on to myself or Alan.

As a reminder, the route for Friday is the A4, which will have some unpaved sections.

Saturday's route is now along the Thames until Goring, where we will then walk up the A417 to Blewbury followed by the B4016 into Didcot. This is still around 20 miles, but much safer.

For those walking on Friday, I will see you around 10am at Wexham Park, and for those only doing Saturday, I will see you either on the train or at Reading station.

One further piece of info : Julie from Didcot would like to invite all participants to some free food from the tea bar on arrival and a drink or two from the bar.
