Best ever striker ESL

I still maintain we would have won the league that year , we steamrollered the first 3 games 5-0,4-0,11-0 , and then after a defeat against Bowers at home they panicked massively and decided that everyone should take a 50% wage cut. a couple left , and then after we lost away at sawbo in the league 1-0 , only our second league defeat , they decided that all the bigger earners had to go. I think if we had kept that squad for the year we would have been alright.

Smallsy was actually in the Bowers team that beat us 3-1. I think we would have run you close mate as we had a decent side . Unfortunately we didnt get to play you when we had that team. WOuld have been a good game.

It would have made the league alot more interesting as we were in cruise control for the bulk of it as they was no decent sides challenging us.

Don't think anyone's mentioned Neil Harris of Maldon yet? Quality striker who went on to do the business at a decent level too (Millwall's record scorer now I do believe).

Mackler was no striker, but one of the best players I have seen at this level in the past 15 years. Unfortunately broke his leg at Romford on Boxing Day in 1994, but was never the same after that.. frown

Yeah and still won nothing. Brentwood players were going out until 4 and 5 in the morning before games as we knew we would win the league and both cups. I know this because i took the players out with me.

Trevor Putney had a decent career in the top flight, having been snapped up by Ipswich from Brentwood. He was taken aside by the Ipswich assistant after coming off from a Roblin Sports game on a Sunday and was asked if he would sign. We never heard the end of it in the Gardeners' Arms every Sunday afternoon.
